DUBLIN’S SENIOR FOOTBALLERS will be led by goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton this season.
The Parnells man was confirmed as the Dubs’ new skipper in the press conference after the win over Cork at GAA HQ tonight. He will take over from All-Ireland winning skipper, Bryan Cullen.
Cluxton conceded two goals to the Rebels this evening — one from Aidan Walsh and a Donncha O’Connor penalty – though the Dubs ran out 1-18 to 2-9 winners in their national league opener.

New boss Jim Gavin will be very encouraged by the performance his his new-look charges who were the better team throughout.
Dublin were 0-11 to 1-4 ahead at half-time and when Diarmuid Connolly converted a penalty, the Dubs were in the driving seat. Bernard Brogan was in good form, hitting half a dozen points, while the likes of Jack McCaffrey and Paddy Andrews also stood out for the Blues.
Scorers for Dublin: Bernard Brogan 0-6 (0-3f), Diarmuid Connolly 1-2 (1-0 pen), Paddy Andrews 0-5, Jack McCaffrey 0-2, Michael Darragh MacAuley, Philly Ryan, Cian O’Sullivan 0-1 each.

Very over-rated in my opinion. Yes he is a good goalkeeper but one good save a year seems to earn him an all- star. This may be due to the amount of media attention the dubs get as opposed to other teams.
Well they do have the most support so it goes without saying they have more media attention which is biased towards them. A good goal keeper but no better than the rest
Just home from croker. Excellent entertainment and a great day. Not many 80,000 seater stadiums in the world where you can see top teams in action for 13 quid.
Great keeper, and free taker but is he not a bit far down the field to do organising. I think midfield should be first choice where possible. Micheal Darragh Mcauley would be ideal in my book. And he’s so quiet and shy hard to see him rallying the lads. Curious choice in my book.
I think Mc Auley is too mad to be captain and Bernard should be just left alone to kick his points.. Clucko is the perfect leader, never smiles, determined to win, says what needs to be said before a game and at halftime.. pure inspirational
Goalkeeper is a near perfect choice for captain. Can see the game developing infront him and can see what needs to be tinckered. He may be quite and reserved off the pitch but on it he’s not afraid to bark out the orders or let the other lads know if there out of position. Perfect choice for captain, He’s solid he’s consistent and relible and has a massive amount of experience.
Great choice, a guaranteed starter when fit, will lead by example and although he is a man of few words the team will no doubt listen to, and be inspired by what he does say. most importantly he has the respect of the whole panel.

Delighted for Stephen, he’ll be great as a captain.
Agreed. Quiet spoken man but a leader by example
The speech if the Dubs win Sam will be short.
Jason McAteer will be delighted.
Stevo! Stevo! Stevo! Darlin’ of the Hill..
He should lighten up a bit. There’s more to life than football.
Ah lads pipe down, when was the last time a goalie scored the winning point in an All-Ireland final?
Does it matter if it was a goalie or not?
No, didn’t think so.

why was doneagal and mayo playing
Damien, All-Ireland champs Donegal were the curtain raiser for the Dubs. Says it all really :0) Always nice beating the Cork boyos too.
he decked mcateer. not cool
looks like he decked you an’ all !!
Over-rated
Michael. You’re either craving attention or you don’t have a clue what your talkin about.
Neither, I just don’t have rose tinted glasses
no you wear a blinfold
Then I wouldn’t know he’s overrated, would I.
Note the personal attack
a personal attack and I didn’t even spell blindfold correctly.. 2 bads for me
I’m a substance over aesthetics person.
Hence why he’s overrated.
Brilliant choice as captain.
It was between him and Bernard brogan
Great win looking forward to a great season, good choice of captain
He’s turned into a right good little goalkeeper.
Great keeper, and free taker but is he not a bit far down the field to do organising. I think midfield should be first choice where possible. Micheal Darragh Mcauley would be ideal in my book. And he’s so quiet and shy hard to see him rallying the lads. Curious choice in my book.
MD Mc. isn’t even a first choice player. Bastick would be my choice, might curb his temper a wee bit too
I think Mc Auley is too mad to be captain and Bernard should be just left alone to kick his points.. Clucko is the perfect leader, never smiles, determined to win, says what needs to be said before a game and at halftime.. pure inspirational

Great choice, a guaranteed starter when fit, will lead by example and although he is a man of few words the team will no doubt listen to, and be inspired by what he does say. most importantly he has the respect of the whole panel.
