Tyrone out-fight Down as both sides finish with 14 men in Newry

It was back to business.

Tyrone  1-11 Down 1-8

TYRONE CAME OUT on the right side of a fiery battle between these Ulster rivals in Newry tonight.

Both sides ended the game with 14 men, as the Red Hand ran out three-points winners.

Down were ahead — on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time — with Benny Coulter to the fore for the Mourne Men while Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan came up the field to kick two first-period points of his own.

Tyrone’s Mark Donnelly then found the net after the break before Donal O’Hare responded almost immediately for James McCartan’s men. Joe McMahon was sent to the line after he picked up a second yellow card with the sides level in the final quarter.

And not long after Conor Laverty was also dismissed. Mickey Harte’s men ultimately finished well with late points from Steven O’Neill and Sean Cavanagh seeing them over the line.
