'It must be a different Seamus Coleman' - Martinez dismisses transfer rumours

The Everton boss wants his Irish full-back to remain at the club for many years.

EVERTON MANAGER ROBERTO Martinez has dismissed rumours of a potential swoop for full-back Seamus Coleman by Manchester United.

Ireland international Coleman has impressed many with his barnstorming displays from right-back this season, chipping in with a number of crucial goals.

The latest of those came in dramatic fashion on Saturday as his last-minute winner saw Everton to a 2-1 win over Cardiff City at Goodison Park to keep them firmly in the hunt for European football next season.

There had been speculation that former Everton boss David Moyes would bring Coleman to Old Trafford in the close-season, but Martinez brushed aside any reports of contact between the two clubs.

โ€œIt must be a different Seamus Coleman because weโ€™ve never had any talks with anyone,โ€ he said.

Seamus has had a very good season, we want that to continue and in the next 10 games we want him to carry on with the same levels.

โ€œHeโ€™s a very, very important player at Everton and we want him to stay here for a long, long time.โ€

Coleman has scored a total of six goals in 26 Premier League outings this season, and has racked up 133 appearances in all competitions since arriving on Merseyside from Sligo Rovers for a reported ยฃ60,000 in January 2009.

Pay him a decent wage and he will stay. Coming into his prime now. Would never begrudge him earning a proper premiership wage that his talent deserves.

Agreed. Although the way United and Everton are at present, any potential move to Old Trafford would not be progressive. We need an attacking right back at Anfield! Johnson poor going forward although in fairness he canโ€™t defend either.

Wouldnโ€™t be easy for him to make the trip to Liverpool, Shane. In fairness, heโ€™s getting a lot of first team football thanks to Everton. He knows that he owes it to the club, manager and fans. Going to perhaps their most hated rival is like stabbing them in the back.

@Shane, it wouldnโ€™t be progressive??? Ah lads, while united are having a bad season do you honestly think he would be better off staying at Everton??

Well if Leighton Baines sees it as the right thing to do,why wouldnโ€™t Coleman?i agree with Begrudgyโ€ฆ..Everton are a big enough club for him but they have to show they appreciate him by shelling out market value wages i.e equal with Baines

He would be a judas if he goes to Liverpool and Iโ€™m surprise how easy is it for you to want your city rivals player. What ever about a Liverpool player I wouldnโ€™t broadcast that we need to sign one if they came I wouldnโ€™t hold it against them but I wouldnโ€™t covet a rivals player it looks bad.

I would love to see Coleman at Arsenal as a replacement for Sagna who looks almost certain to leave! I think Arsenalโ€™s style would compliment him brilliantly!!

The fact is he is too good for a team like United currently. He is the best fullback in the premiership and if he were to leave to further his career then Madrid or Barca would be better fits. They would suit his style of play too.
United will be great again when they get rid of Moyes and rebuild but leaving Everton for them right now would be at best a sideways move.

Is this the kind of player that will bring glory to OT, I donโ€™t think so. Starring for Everton and starring fit united 2 very different things, ask Fellini

Just wonder if he wasnโ€™t Irish, would everyone still think he is united, barxa or Real Madrid worthy? If he is that good, why is he at Everton? Or have I got lost in some English forum and he is really English

Well realistically itโ€™s only within the last two seasons which heโ€™s made a vast significant improvement as a player, both going forward and defensively. If youโ€™d said United were interested in Coleman 3 seasons ago people would have slapped the stupidity off your face, yet here we are now and truth be told he can do better than United.Rumours online say barca are interested.Personally I canโ€™t imagine it but I wouldnโ€™t begrudge it either.Weโ€™re far to quick to put our own down!
