FAI CHIEF EXECUTIVE John Delaney insisted that Roy Keane is “100% committed” to his Ireland job following speculation linking the Corkman with a shock return to Manchester United.
Delaney dismissed reports that Louis van Gaal, the number one candidate to replace the sacked David Moyes, wants to bring Keane back to Old Trafford as his assistant.
If van Gaal gets the job, it would most likely leave Keane facing a tough call between club and country. Both he and manager Martin O’Neill are contracted with the FAI for the duration of the Euro 2016 campaign, which begins this autumn.

“There’s lots of speculation about who is going to manage Manchester United and what players are going to be involved,” Delaney told Jonathan Healy on Newstalk’s Lunchtime.
“I don’t think there’s anything in that. Roy has given his commitment to be assistant manager to Martin and to work for the FAI.
“There’s been speculation about him in many jobs since he took the role with us but, no I don’t think there’s anything in that.
Roy’s 100% commitment is being the assistant manager with the Republic of Ireland team.
If keano and mick mcarthy can kiss and make up..anything can happen
United could do with some of keanes will to win on the field..be interesting to see him coach the first team and shake them up a bit..the fans would definately love to see him back..mans a united legend!

Not really interested in getting into a “did he jump or was he pushed” argument, but people don’t recall this story that happened at the same World Cup. I wonder do the the Slovenians still get into bitter rages over stuff like this? Players and managers fall out, c’est la vie.
Personally, as a United fan, I think he might cause more harm than good, although he would probably have the balls to cut some of the egos down to size, eg Ferdinand, Rooney et al. He’d definitely bring a fear factor back into things but that might push the players over the edge again.
Utd are a sinking ship, why would you want anything to do with it. And the journey Van won’t be around for long. Utd is toxic at the minute so stay away or you’ll sink with it.
Snore off, one bad year out of twenty fuelled by one very bad appointment. At least give United one season to turn it round before writing the much desired obituaries.
Really !!!! Are they seconds away from administration ??? Ah no that was Liverpool less then 4 years ago according to your managing director .
I’m laughing already because no mater what happens this year Manchester United will be back fighting for the title next year, you know that , I know that , the dog on the street knows that , and what could be better then stopping City defending their title next year
@peter, well maybe your blinded by club loyalty. No leadership in the boardroom, Fergies influence over decision making, massive debt, the debacle over Moyes sacking, player power and don’t forget no credible player or couch wants anything to do with it. If you can’t see floating the club on the stock market is the first step to dismantling the club and selling it off bit by bit your blind,it’s only the start. The Glazers are vultures, ask the die hard FC United supporters.
This is debt which was takin on back in 2005. I’m not going to defend the Glazers and completely agree that they are vultures, however debt has to be viewed relative to revenue. As long as United remain at the top table it is not an issue and one season out of Champions League although a concern is not terminal. As dispicable as the owners are, it is 100% in their interests to keep United at the top, otherwise their business plan falls totally flat. It is a testament to the size and pulling power of United that they have sustained the owners this long, very few clubs if any would of survived them let alone remain competitive. As to dismantling the club, i’m more than happy for them to float on the stock exchange, i’d roll the dice and take my chances that anyone who purchaces will be far less destructive than them. At the moment it’s only 10% and don’t think they have any plans to go higher.
90% of MANU is is private ownership. Shares for the other 10% do not carry voting rights.
Private companies do not have to make their affairs public – so there is little chance the Glaziers would wish to let us see (by going public/issuing shares) their perilous financial position which is largely a result of the dire US real estate market.
Fees/drawings/withdrawals are constantly being taken by the family, as they are entitled to. Leading Wall Steet analysts say MANU is the Glaziers’ only income stream – so the omens are not good.
But because of the private nature of the ownership companies, the exact position is unknown. Blind ownership is bad for the game and should not be allowed.
The most likely outcome is a sale of club – to produce funds to service/repay the family’s substantial borrowings. In the meantime, the club’s fate is totally dependent on the Glaziers’ current and changing financial position.
The fact is United are profitable and self sustaining. I’m not arguing that they are not victims of the Glazer ownwership but the unique abiltity the club has through marketing and global appeal means at the moment they are not in a perilous financial state. Liverpool themsleves have a fair amount of debt and far less revenue so it’s not too dissimilar. United and Liverpool are the only clubs in world football who have ever been bought in a leveraged buy out. It almost sent Liverpool into administration and the debt was a fraction of what United’s was but it is all relative to the clubs revenue. People love talking and speculating about United’s demise, for all we know this might be the beginings of it, however they are far from a spent force at the moment. Just look at the reaction globally to David Moyes sacking. It has knocked everything off the front and back pages over in the UK (where i’m based). No club comes close in terms of mass appeal. United are not Leeds or Rangers, this is a global franchise and as vulgar as it sounds they are probably too big to fail.
Them Glazer’s are only professional bag men, financing, refinancing, issuing bonds and moving billions through their accounts. And Fergie new what was happening but did a resignation u-turn anyway,I wonder why. He works in Harvard now. Its time now to capitalize on the Man Utd brand and that doesn’t end well.
Right you two I’m not going to resort to slander in order to emphasize my point. Either of you have had any opinion on the topic at hand. Matthew the Nike deal has been delayed in the hope it can be re-drawn and is far from a done deal. The capitalists are coming and when their finished they’ll simply re-brand a new club. Utd are finished, if they are still in the top league in a decade it’ll be a miracle.
It’s a game with loads of money involved. Of course he should go wherever the money is. Like one group of English/Irish/Korean fans is much different to the next.
Firstly, he did not walk out but was sent packing for questioning HIS countries preperations for the World Cup. Yes he took it to the extreme but when you provoke Keane there is only going to be one outcome. To call him a traitor is harsh as he left every club at a stage that favoured the club. Forest were relegated and received a record transfer fee, Fergie was happy to remove what he felt was a destructive influence and he retired at Celtic. He could of left United back in 2000 for big money in Italy but didn’t. He could of packed it in at Forest when they were struggling but became their player of the season. He could of left ‘well enough’ alone with Ireland but chose to return and play for his country.
Roy keane was never in love with united. He is a united legend, and a footballing legend who played for United first, closet Liverpool fan second. He never ever expressed his love for the club. His prawn sandwich comments have it all away.

I can’t see that hapening, not now. Can you imagine the athmosphere between Roy and Fergie.
If keano and mick mcarthy can kiss and make up..anything can happen
United could do with some of keanes will to win on the field..be interesting to see him coach the first team and shake them up a bit..the fans would definately love to see him back..mans a united legend!
Even though i was 100% on Roys side in Saipan i always felt a little sorry for Mick even though i hated what he did. He is a decent guy.
Fergie however is ruthless. He might not be so quick to kiss n make up.
Legends don’t get fired from their club – and walk out on their country!
Correct – Keane is no ‘legend’
Just a traitor who was thrown out of MUFC
Should have been banned for life by the FAI
What other player walked out on his country, in a World Cup finals?
Ever….
I think the Slovenian captain did exactly that in 2002.
Sorry he was “sent home”, as was Roy. He had a row with the coach after being substituted.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zlatko_Zahovič
Not really interested in getting into a “did he jump or was he pushed” argument, but people don’t recall this story that happened at the same World Cup. I wonder do the the Slovenians still get into bitter rages over stuff like this? Players and managers fall out, c’est la vie.
Personally, as a United fan, I think he might cause more harm than good, although he would probably have the balls to cut some of the egos down to size, eg Ferdinand, Rooney et al. He’d definitely bring a fear factor back into things but that might push the players over the edge again.
Damn, I just posted before I saw yours, great minds etc… Best of luck on Sunday.
Hey another tw@t (glen) did you forget to switch accounts there to back up your rubbish talk
Get back in your box and pipe down
Poor Roy is only in the job 5 mins and they have him jumping ship already.
What does Roy think I wonder? He’s keeping very quiet for a chap who’s 100% committed to Ireland. In a related matter, Delaney is still a clown.
He’s keeping quiet because he is busy taking in matches and getting on with his work. There’s nothing for the man to say on the issue.
Can’t he do both. It’s not like the Ireland assistant coach position is a full time job
Paul l would love to see that, love him or hate him he would get the job done,,
Ah in fairness what man is going walk out on his Country,,,,,,,,,,,,
Twice?????…..
Hard to refuse United.
Let’s not forget, he’s not the Ireland manager. He’s the assistant.
Utd are a sinking ship, why would you want anything to do with it. And the journey Van won’t be around for long. Utd is toxic at the minute so stay away or you’ll sink with it.

Mr Full of Sh!te do you have a direct line with the club or something ??
Loui. Tell that dog to sober up m8.
MANU are doomed, with debts of $400m. Interest alone is $70m a year!
All because the Glaziers put in very little to the purchase. The club was bought with borrowed money.
No other club in Europe was this massive level of debt, which is unsustainable.
Their stupid choice of manager, Moyes, was just the final nail in the coffin.
Here Cicero if you want to address me do so in a decent and respectful way. If you spoke to me like that in the street I’d thump the head off ye.

* what was going to happen
Hahahaha don’t makes laugh you silly little boy full of Sh!te !
Phil officer keep your panty’s on you stroppy little tart !
Glen the new Nike shirt deal is said to be in the region if £70 million a season over ten year …. So interest covered .
Right you two I’m not going to resort to slander in order to emphasize my point. Either of you have had any opinion on the topic at hand. Third biggest club on the world. Unrivalled commercial revenue. Yeah, sinking ship.
Good lord man, you’re definitely one of these 9/11 conspiracy theorists I’d say. Keep that tin hat on and we’ll reconvene in a decade.
Fergal, see my post about the Glazier debt – why ignore massive borrowings which are not reducing? Interest being paid, only.
He’s not exactly proven as a coach, methinks united need to go with a safe bet at this stage?
That’s what you get with Van Gaal. Keane would scare the sh!t out of some of the players and get them pumped again
Can’t he do both. It’s not like the Ireland assistant coach position is a full time job
Keane is a traitor – will go wherever suits him.
The sooner, the better…
It’s a game with loads of money involved. Of course he should go wherever the money is. Like one group of English/Irish/Korean fans is much different to the next.

Not going to happen. Fergie said he would do everything in his power to block Keane’s appointment to assistant.
When he rang you was it ?
No it was actually by telegram, he’s a bit old school like that.
Keano’s off the Old Trafford then. Right place for him, he’s the nearest thing to Ferguson, a lot more like him than Moyes is anyway.
Delaney can say all he wants on this story.
Keane’s silence speaks volumes about his intentions.
Yeah. Any news on that plane there have ya.
a closed oven doesn’t bake bread !
Roy is a winner that’s it!!!!!!
Roy keane was never in love with united. He is a united legend, and a footballing legend who played for United first, closet Liverpool fan second. He never ever expressed his love for the club. His prawn sandwich comments have it all away.
