Robbie to skip New York showdown to meet up with Irish squad

The FAI have confirmed however that the nation’s record goalscorer will skip the game with New York Red Bulls in order to join up with the squad.

IRELAND SKIPPER ROBBIE Keane will now join the Ireland squad for the first day of training ahead of the  Euro 2012 qualifiers with Andorra and Armenia next month.

Manager Giovanni Trapattoni last week explained that he was happy for the LA Galaxy striker to stay on in America to face New York Red Bull on 4 October.

The FAI have confirmed however that the nation’s record goalscorer will skip the game in order to join up with the squad on 3 October.

The clash of the Galaxy and the Red Bulls had been billed in the States as the biggest collection of football talent in the MLS with the likes of Thierry Henry, David Beckham and Landon Donovan on show.

The match was made all but meaningless however, thanks to a 1-0 win over Columbus Crew on Saturday night, which secured the Galaxy’s top position in the Western Conference.

Silva just keeps getting better and better, it’s hard to understand how he does it. The scary thing is that his eventual replacement came off the bench and showed what he can do within 60 seconds.
