ON SUNDAY, ROBBIE Keane’s Los Angeles Galaxy played out a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire in a mid-afternoon Major League Soccer clash at Toyota Park and the Irishman was furious that the game went ahead to begin with.
The Windy City didn’t exactly stay true to its nickname with minimal breeze and sweltering temperatures. It got up to 33 degrees and players on both sides struggled in the extreme conditions with Galaxy defender Dan Gargan forced off before half-time due to exhaustion.

In a dour game, Jeff Larentowicz opened the scoring for the hosts with just over twenty minutes to go before Landon Donovan equalised shortly after.

Afterwards, Keane vented his anger at the league for allowing the game be played in the middle of the day, when temperatures were at their highest.
I don’t know who makes these fucking stupid decisions. Play a fucking game at three o’clock in the afternoon? Who wants to watch that crap? Do you? I don’t want to watch that crap. These people who haven’t got a clue about soccer make these decisions when we play a game. Why not play at eight o’clock? It wasn’t on national television.”
As well as Dan Gargan having to be substituted before the interval, another Galaxy player Stefan Ishizaki complained of being unable to breathe properly for a ten-minute period of the first half. Keane was damning in his criticism and asked for the players’ voices to be heard before similar decisions are made in the future.
It’s so stupid. They need to look at these games and use their head and be clever. No player wants to play in that humidity. Everyone was affected by the heat. Why would you want to play at three o’clock in the afternoon? On the hottest day of the year so far here in Chicago, knowing it is going to be that hot. And you can’t blame the LA Kings- Chicago Blackhawks (ice-hockey) game because you didn’t know that was going to happen until two days ago. This is absolutely ridiculous. We have to stop. We have to listen to the players instead of listening to people who have never kicked a soccer ball in their whole life.”
Every walk of life the people who make the decisions haven’t got a clue, they live in a grey world where everything gets swepped under the carpet, anyone who rocks the boat will be shown the door even though they are the only decent person there
Ffs, In all fairness you wouldn’t be in the best of mood if you were running around in that heat, plus he’s the captain and has to look out for the players and made sure he got his point heard.
Jack Charlton had to do the same and it got the laws changed so players could take on fluids during a game. RK is right to be angry it was dangerous and players were dropping with exhaustion. Pity the dopes who decided the WC should be held in the dessert weren’t as forthcoming.
The original Keano would be proud of you Robbie ! In fairness he has a point though . Summer is still a few weeks away and yesterdays temps were nothing really . Evening games are the way to go over here for the players and the fans . The aging superstars coming over from the big European leagues will have a hard time with the heat and humidity not to mind the absurd amount of travel.
Doesn’t really have a point though. That was unusually hot for Chicago at this time. Agree you can’t be scheduling world cups for a Qatar summer but rescheduling a one off game because of a hot day when you can only have about three days notice of the temperature is a bit much of an ask, no?
While yesterday’s weather wasn’t extreme by any means I think his point is that the fans get a better product if the players can perform without the conditions being a major factor . Keep in mind Miami is pushing for a team and as Irish fans of a certain vintage remember all too well Florida afternoons in June can be unbearable . He might be getting cranky in his old age too …
If it was Roy Keane complaining about something (which he did many times for both club and country) you would all be calling him a legend who demands the best etc etc. Robbie is dead right, stupid decision to fix a game in heat where players have to come off due to exhaustion
I live in Chicago it was only around 80degrees. Not sure if they rescheduled the game because the Blackhawks (hockey team) were playing game 7 to go to the Stanley cup finals.
If they would have played in the evening half the crowd would have stayed away.
Is it a public holiday in the US today John? If not it would seem strange to have a sporting fixture on at 3 in the afternoon on a working day. Is it because soccer is mostly followed by immigrants, many of which are unemployed? Just curious.
The game was on Sunday, so not a national holiday obviously, and I’m sure your remarks about immigrants not working hard were some vain attempt at taking the piss. They wouldn’t be here if they couldn’t find a job, in fact most work their balls of for peanuts.
If you gave a shite Robbie you wouldn’t be playing soccer in a crap league.Just look at your weekly pay packet. Its not all that bad and I can’t feel that sorry for you …..Sorry

Were you drunk when you wrote this?
Hepped up on goofballs again
Very eloquently put Keane, can he not get his point across without using expletives. He’s meant to be a roll model after all.
He likes his breakfast rolls alright!
I don’t give a shit that he’s cursed! Probably got his point a lot more attention because of it!
Whys he meant to be a role model?
Because a lot of kids tend to look up to footballers including Robbie
Robbie Keane is cursed?!
He was when loaned out to West Ham.
Ffs, In all fairness you wouldn’t be in the best of mood if you were running around in that heat, plus he’s the captain and has to look out for the players and made sure he got his point heard.
Yeah agreed but there’s better ways to better ways to go about it that’s all I’m saying
Ah don’t be such a dry shite
Can’t see how that’s being dry, simply making a point that there’s better ways to go about these kind of things.
Jack Charlton had to do the same and it got the laws changed so players could take on fluids during a game. RK is right to be angry it was dangerous and players were dropping with exhaustion. Pity the dopes who decided the WC should be held in the dessert weren’t as forthcoming.
Oh no, won’t somebody please think of the children?!?!
Pull your head out of you arse.
I will indeed If you explain the need for me to pull my head out of my arse?
Pff sure they were playing 5 hour tennis matches in 45 degrees in Melbourne in February!
I believe people similar to Sepp Blatter make these choices. Qatar should be fun.
Robbie, your being paid a fu(king shit load of money that’s why.
Maybe the interpreter misheard Robbie and something got lost in translation….
Have a lot of respect for him as an athlete but there’s better ways to conduct yourself, especially if you are a role model for young kids
Kids need to see adults telling incompetent fu ckwits to go f uck themselves. Keeps em honest.
I read that as Tayto park at first. Very confusing :/
Would you rather be playing in Crumlin,in the freezing sideways rain
Yes but unlike the other Keane , he Robbie will show up for Ireland and play no bullshit from this Keane

What a whiny little b1tch. Play in it Robbie or go play for some LOI side where you can play in the p1ssing rain and cold.
If it was Roy Keane complaining about something (which he did many times for both club and country) you would all be calling him a legend who demands the best etc etc. Robbie is dead right, stupid decision to fix a game in heat where players have to come off due to exhaustion

Language robbie ya pup

Conservation of energy in fairness was never Robbie’s strong point. Maybe TV sponsorship to pay wages??
Well said robbie. It gets really hot in Bridgeview. Speaking the language they might understand out there too!
He should transfer following the weather it’s about the only route he hasn’t taken
