Liverpool 3-0 Everton
19.50 – Welcome to our liveblog of this evening’s game.
Can David Moyes celebrate ten years in charge of Everton with a victory tonight?
19.57 – Here are the starting line-ups:
Liverpool: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Carragher, Jose Enrique, Henderson, Gerrard, Spearing, Downing, Carroll, Suarez. Subs: Doni, Maxi, Coates, Kuyt, Adam, Shelvey, Flanagan.
Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Rodwell, Fellaini, Pienaar, Stracqualursi, Anichebe. Subs: Mucha, Heitinga, Jelavic, Drenthe, Cahill, Neville, Osman.
20.02 – And we’re off…
20.06 – Tim Howard has started nervously, giving it straight to Henderson from his throw out.
20.10 – Liverpool really look up for this game. Their intense pressing has forced Everton to concede possession on a number of occasions already.
And as I type that, Howard has got down well to stop a side-footed shot from Gerrard, which was heading for the corner of the net.
20.11 – Great work from Baines, who beats both Kelly and Henderson down the left. However, he then plays it to Pienaar, who blasts it well over.
20.14 – Carroll heads down a goal kick into the path of Suarez, whose shot on the turn is well saved by Howard.
It’s been a lively opening to this game.
20.19 – It’s currently 3-0 to Liverpool as far as shots on target are concerned, but Everton (and in particular Steven Pienaar) are also looking threatening on the counter attack.
20.24 – Bit of handbags, as Andy Carroll aggressively shoves Baines. He’s lucky to escape punishment – a less honest player might have made more of that.
20.29 – Everton are beginning to come into the game a bit more now, after Liverpool’s dominant start to the game.
20.36 – GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL!
20.37 – Kelly’s shot is parried by Howard, and the ball falls to Gerrard, who coolly clips it over Howard and into the net.
20.40 – Kelly bursts forward from the right back spot, and his shot goes narrowly to the wrong side of the post.
20.44 – Distin does well to outpace Suarez and put in a last-ditch tackle, after the Uruguayan was played through on goal.
Everton are seriously under the cosh at the moment. Liverpool, meanwhile, are playing as well as they ever have this season.
20.48 – Everton are seemingly lacking width in attack at the moment. Even Seamus Coleman seems to be playing very far infield.
20.48 – HALF TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-0 EVERTON
20.56 – An intriguing first half of football then. Liverpool probably deserve their lead. They have pressed their opponents into submission Jack Charlton-style, and lead courtesy of a beautiful Steven Gerrard finish.
Everton, on the other hand, while occasionally looking dangerous on the counter attack, will now probably need to adopt a more ambitious approach to this game.
21.04 – And the second half is underway…
21.09 – GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL!
21.11 – Liverpool are really running rampant now, and look odds on to add a third.
But as I type that, Jack Rodwell’s shot is cleared off the line.
21.21 – Triple substitution for Everton: Anichebe, Coleman and Stracqualursi off. Drenthe, Osman and Jelavic on.
21.23 – Here’s another look at that first Gerrard goal from earlier:
21.29 – Carroll plays Suarez through, and the Uruguayan shoots wide from a difficult angle.
The two strikers have linked up well tonight.
21.31 – LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTION: KUYT REPLACES HENDERSON.
21.35 – Liverpool are coasting at the moment, with Everton seldom threatening, despite the attack-minded changes they’ve made.
21.39 – Downing fires a free kick into the wall, as the game appears to be petering out.
21.44 – Liverpool are still looking the far more threatening of the two teams, despite the fact that they seem to have this game wrapped up.
21.48 – Given that this game seems to be all over, here’s a quick poll:
Do you think Liverpool still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League?
21.51 – GOAL FOR LIVERPOOL!
22.01 – Steven Gerrard scores a hat-trick with virtually the last kick of the game, hammering it into an empty net after a clever pass from Suarez.
22.01 – FULL TIME: LIVERPOOL 3-0 EVERTON
22.03 – Gerrard says he’s “not comparing himself to Ian Rush” in the post-match interview. Gerrard was making his 400th Liverpool appearance tonight.
22.11 – “This is not like playing for Newcastle or Sunderland, this is a special club,” says Sky’s Graeme Souness about the likes of Jordan Henderson, adding that “we’ll know in a year’s time” if they’re good enough to play for Liverpool.
22.17 – Okay, that’s it from me. Thanks for reading and commenting. Laters.
