Poland bound? McClean looks set for Euro inclusion

Giovanni Trapattoni has suggested the Sunderland star has a “90 to 99 per cent” chance of making the 23-man squad.

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI HAS strongly hinted that James McClean will be selected in Ireland’s 23-man Euro 2012 squad, saying the midfielder has a “90 to 99 per cent chance” of being included.

Speaking to reporters following his Croagh Patrick visit yesterday, the Italian manager praised the Sunderland star, and did little to quell widespread speculation that he would be on the plane to Poland:

“In my head, I know my 23 players. McClean has a 90 to 99 per cent chance of going to Poland. Of the rest, I cannot say too much. Some may pick up an injury.”

He added that he was well aware of the winger’s goalscoring capabilities:

“McClean plays with a bit of luck. Sometimes he doesn’t play well but gets the opportunity to score a goal.”

Trap also expressed relief at Richard Dunne’s recent return to fitness:

“I was worried. I said, ‘Be careful, we need you’.

“He will be important for us. All players in the squad are important, but especially Richard Dunne. For us, he is one of the strongest.”

He added that he was relatively unconcerned at the prospect of the Irish contingent at Wolves playing in the Championship next year, indicating that he didn’t believe their form would be affected.

The Ireland squad for Euro 2012 will be announced on May 7.

Its only because Hunt, Duff & McGeady form has been rubbish especially Hunt! You have no choice Trap. You have to call up the form players….and yes that even means Darron Gibson…cant believe I want Gibson in the squad!!!

Why? Gibson has been a decent player since he left old trafford and is better than Andrews or Whelan. Mcgeadey had been a disgrace this season and is reported to be close to getting the boot from Moscow. Hunt will be left behind with McClean in his place
