AS THEY HAPPENED: FA Cup 3 o’clocks

We hadn’t seen much magic so far in the FA Cup third rounds but could the three o’clock kick-offs thrill us? Could Tamworth pull off an upset against Everton?

A different kind of upset for Kean?

14.50Magic of the cup #3: Pavlyuchenko starts for Spurs against Cheltenham

14.50 – Joey Barton on Twitter is at least getting into the spirit if not on the pitch:

“Sitting here like a melon, wish I was playing. I love the FA Cup, have done since I was a nipper. Dreams will be started and finished today.”

14.58 – Fulham have broken with the day’s general trend, by the by, and have fielded a strong side against Charlton.

15.02 – Dagenham & Redbridge have managed a creditable 0-0 draw at home to Millwall… and that without 11 first-team players!

15.03 – We’re off.

15.08GOAL! Norwich 1-0 Burnley

Both Hoolohan and Holt keep their fine form going, the former crossing for the striker to finish.

15.09GOAL! Coventry 1-0 Southampton (McSheffrey)

15.10 – GOAL! Everton 1-0 Tamworth

So that’s the end of that romance then. After five minutes. John Heitinga capitalises on a Tamworth error and heads in for the opener.

15.11GOAL! Macclesfield 0-01 Bolton (Klasnic)

15.12GOAL! West Brom 1-0 Cardiff (Dembele)

15.13GOAL! Fulham 1-0 Charlton

Fulham continue the intent signalled in their line-up with Clint Dempsey striking.

15.14GOAL! Norwich 2-0 Burnley

Simeon Jackson extends the lead by nodding in from six yards.

15.14 – Phew, a flurry of action there. That was a very good opening 15 minutes for the Premier League there.

15.16GOAL! Macclesfield 1-1 Bolton

And are Bolton’s troubles continuing!? Macclesfield equalise through Colin Daniuel. And that after missing a first chance.

15.18GOAL! Norwich 2-1 Burnley

Rodriguez now pulls one back for Burnley.

15.20GOAL! Gillingham 1-0 Stoke

And another surprise to follow the goals at Norwich and against Bolton. Gillingham have gone ahead against Stoke.

15.21 – Kedwell got Gillingham’s goal against last season’s finalists by the way.

15.21 – Well, quite a contrast to the early action so far! It’s been goals galore and the chance of a few upsets already!

Keep an eye on Gillingham Stoke.

15.24GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Cheltenham

Giovani lifts the ball over the keeper for Defoe to tap in. A little harsh on Giovani! That was a wonderful effort!

15.27 – Gillingham manfully dealing with Stoke’s long-ball tactics – yes, even at a League Two team – and are fine value for their lead.

15.33 – Two goals in quick succession at Oakwell as Barnsley go ahead only for Rangel to equalise for Swansea.

15.36GOAL! Swindon 0-1 Wigan

Callum McManaman scores the rebound after Ben Watson misses a penalty which the former was fouled for.

15.37GOAL! West Brom 2-0 Cardiff

15.39GOAL! Gillingham 1-1 Stoke

Another goal for the Irish as Jon Walters disappoints hopes for an upset with the equaliser.

15.43GOAL! Swindon 1-1 Wigan

A brilliant header from Alan Connell to leave Paolo Di Canio punching the air.

15.43GOAL! West Brom 2-1 Cardiff

Rob Earnshaw pulls one back for Cardiff, with West Brom having looked very comfortable.

15.44GOAL! Tottenham 2-0 Cheltenham

Defoe crosses for Pavlyuchenko to tap home his fourth of the season… and possibly last goal for Spurs?

15.46 – Kenwyne Jones misses an absolute sitter at Gillingham, where Stoke have now taken control of the game.

15.47GOAL! Gillingham 1-2 Stoke

And there we go. Delap drills it to the near post from a set-piece, Jones flicks it on and Cameron Jerome fires home.

15.54 – Half-times everywhere of course. Time for a well-earned breather. That was chaos.

16.05 – The second halves are off.

16.06GOAL! Barnsley 1-2 Swansea

Danny Graham puts the Premier League team into the lead just a minute into the break with a rasping 30-yarder!

16.14 – GOAL! Gillingham 1-3 Stoke City

Robert Huth powers home for Stoke. That should be that.

A shock at the Hawthorns as Cardiff have come back from two goals down against the Premier League side, Joe Mason getting the eventual equaliser.

16.17 – Stockdale pulls out more heroics for Fulham, denying Charlton an equaliser. He’s been in fine form lately the goalkeeper. Talk of an England call-up.

16.21GOAL! Norwich 3-1 Burnley

Andrew Surman settles that one for the Premier League side.

16.22GOAL! Fulham 2-0 Charlton

A one-two between Ruiz and Dempsey sets up the latter to win this game surely.

And Simon Cox gets his second to put the Premier League side back in the lead!

16.24GOAL! Barnsley 2-3 Swansea

Ricardo Vas Tez now puts Swansea back into the league. Drinkwater knocked it back and he finished well. Odd game this.

16.26GOAL! Macclesfield 2-1 Bolton

Is this the shock of the day? Arnaud Mendy hits a stunning volley to cause a potential upset.

16.29GOAL! MK Dons 1-0 QPR

Dean Bowditch sets up a second possible upset with a tap-in.

16.31GOAL! Newcastle United 1-1 Blackburn Rovers

Well, Hatem Ben Arfa is rising to the challenge. Looking for a place in the first team, the playmaker found many gaps in the Blackburn defence. He ghosted through a series of defenders to then slot the ball home. Wonderful equaliser.

16.34GOAL! Norwich 4-1 Burnley

Steve Morison keeps his own run of form going to make this thoroughly convincing now.

16.35GOAL! Swindon 2-1 Wigan

Paul Benson could cause a third shock today! He leaps on Al-Habsi’s parry from a 30-yard drive to make it 2-1 Swindon!

16.37GOAL! Macclesfield 2-2 Bolton

David Wheater spares Bolton’s blushes with a precise strike.

16.40GOAL! Fulham 3-0 Charlton

Clint Dempsey completes his hat-trick from the spot. His first treble for Fulham

Giovani gets the chip that Defoe stole off him! Another divine effort and this one goes in without deflection!

16.47GOAL! Fulham 4-0 Charlton

16.48GOAL! Barnsley 2-4 Swansea

Danny Graham slides in from Wayne Routledge’s cross.

16.49 – Klasnic threatening for Bolton, where it’s 2-2 at Macclesfield.

16.51GOAL! MK Dons 1-1 QPR

QPR spare themselves embarrassment with an equaliser. Helguson makes up for his earlier error that allowed the MK goal by rolling in easily.

16.52GOAL! West Brom 4-2 Cardiff City

Simon Cox hits his first career hat-trick.

16.53 – FULL-TIME: Swindon 2-1 Wigan

The first upset of the day as Paolo Di Canio’s side knock out the Premier League outfit.

16.55GOAL! Newcastle United 2-1 Blackburn Rovers

More misery for Blackburn and this minutes into stoppage time as Jonas Gutierrez flies down the left to finish!

17.05 – And that’s it. A chaotic day! But, ultimately, quite an enjoyable one with a few talking points. The main ones:

  • The big shock came at the County Ground where Swindon knocked out Wigan. Elsewhere, Bolton just about averted a similar upset at Macclesfield as they ca,e back from 2-1 down through James Wheater to draw.
  • Blackburn’s misery continued as Newcastle completed a comeback in stoppage time with Jonas Gutierrez giving them a late, late winner. Hatem Ben Arfa had earlier equaliser David Goodwillie’s opener with a superb solo strike.
  • It was a good day for the Irish with Simon Cox hitting his first career hat-trick as West Brom beat Cardiff 4-2, and Damien Duff getting back on the pitch and back among the goals in Fulham’s 4-0 win over Charlton.
  • In the day’s most romantic game, Everton dispelled any magic with a diligent but dour 2-0 win over lowly Tamworth. Not good for the Toffees that they struggled to score goals against such opposition.
