Hello, and welcome to our liveblog of Transfer Deadline Day, or as some people have been calling it, Jim White Day…
In case you haven’t heard, the big news is that Monaco’s Radamel Falcao looks set for a loan move to Manchester United. Here’s a snapshot of what United fans have to look forward to (assuming he does actually sign of course):
Shinji Kagawa is now officially back at Dortmund.
Some Irish transfer news for you – The Mirror are reporting that Crystal Palace midfielder Owen Garvan could be on his way to Bolton.
Meanwhile, Hull have signed Uruguay international Abel Hernández from Palermo for £9.5million.
Meanwhile, Jermaine Defoe could be on his way to QPR or Leicester with the England striker having become disillusioned with life in the MLS after Toronto sacked manager Ryan Nelson.
Also, Tottenham’s Lewis Holtby is having a medical at Hamburg.
This is quite possibly the worst thing on the internet today. Chris Kamara has well and truly jumped the shark!
Rio Ferdinand has given his approval to that Falcao deal…
Sky Sports News are reporting that Liverpool’s Sebastian Coates is on his way to Sunderland in a loan deal.
Provided the deal goes through, it means they won’t be signing Fabio Borini, as you can’t sign two loan players from one club.
Javier Hernandez has officially signed for Real Madrid in a loan deal. More details here.
Here are the biggest spenders in the transfer window according to Sky Sports News.
Twitter is going wild for Charlie Nicholas’ new look.
Brilliant!
A novel idea…
Sky Sports News are reporting that Kevin Doyle could be on his way to Crystal Palace.
It would be a good move for the Ireland international, given the troubles he’s had of late.
The latest on Falcao…
Here’s a clip of those Gary Cotterill shenanigans.
Unbelievable scenes as Harry Redknapp refuses to roll down his car window to Sky Sports News!
In more serious news, Sandro could be on his way to QPR for £6million, while Danny Welbeck is having a medical at Arsenal.
If you’re bored waiting for Falcao to sign, then click here try out our Deadline Day quiz.
Serie A side Fiorentina have signed Man City’s Micah Richards on a season-long loan.
The England international has barely played for City in recent seasons, with Pablo Zabaleta establishing himself as the first-choice right-back at the Etihad.
BREAKING: Falcao’s car has been spotted…
Talksport claim that Danny Welbeck wants to leave United on a permanent rather than a loan deal.
Your move, Arsene!
Just over four hours before the deadline closes. So far, who do you think has done the best business in this transfer window?
Poll Results:
BREAKING: Sky Sports News have finally got an interview with Harry Redknapp (but not through his car window disappointingly).
He has confirmed that Sandro is on the verge of signing for QPR.
The Palace fans are getting a bit rowdy as SSN report that James McArthur is signing for the Eagles in a club record £7m fee.
Sky are now reporting that Danny Welbeck is not having a medical at Arsenal and there is no deal in place for the player.
The Man United spending spree is set to continue, it seems…
Finally, Jim White is in the building…
According to Stan Collymore, Toronto have rejected a number of bids for Jermaine Defoe and so the England international is staying at the club, apparently.
Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that Sandro has signed for QPR from Tottenham in a £10million deal.
Alan Smith and the increasingly ubiquitous Neil Lennon have joined Jim White and co on Sky Sports News, with less than three hours of the deadline to go.
Done deal!
Here’s a sneak peak of what Manchester United fans have to look forward to…
Avert your eyes children…
Here are the latest figures in terms of club spending since the window opened.
Ha!
Daley Blind: “Louis van Gaal is a tremendously talented coach, I have worked with him at Ajax and also for the Netherlands national team and I cannot wait to work with him at the biggest club in the world.”
More on Manchester United’s latest signing here.
It’s as if he spent the money himself.
So it looks like Danny Welbeck is going to Arsenal on a permanent deal.
Plenty of people on Twitter questioning why United are selling the England international to a rival.
There’s late talk of Celtic possibly signing Man City’s John Guidetti on loan.
In addition, the prospective Welbeck fee is apparently £16million.
Sky are now reporting that “no deal” has been reached between United and Arsenal for Danny Welbeck as of yet.
They add that if it does happen, it will be “very late”.
Rene Meulensteen is in the Sky Sports News studio. He reckons Welbeck would be a very good signing for Arsenal.
Squeaky bum time for United as they have just over an hour to complete the Falcao deal.
Deadline Day has been rudely interrupted.
That’s one way of looking at it.
Gary Cotterill has brought back the vanishing spray at QPR amid inevitable cheers from numerous rowdy fans.
Not much happening in terms of actual transfers right now.
So I’m guessing assuming Falcao signs, United’s (fairly impressive-looking) best XI would be something like this…
De Gea; Valencia/Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Shaw; Di Maria, Herrera, Blind; Rooney; Falcao, Van Persie.
Do you agree?
More unfortunate supporter shenanigans (via @MiguelDelaney)
Southampton’s Gaston Ramirez has gone on loan to Hull, who have had a busy day after also signing Abel Hernández from Palermo for £9.5million.
Meanwhile, there are suggestions that Everton may consider a loan deal for Tom Cleverley in January.
The latest on Kevin Doyle…
Meanwhile, SSN report that deals involving Danny Welbeck and Radamel Falcao are set to go “right down to the wire”.
With all this Danny Welbeck talk, no better excuse than to revisit this clip of Roy Keane giving a 12-year-old Welbeck some tips…
Tony Fernandes has told SSN that QPR will probably revisit the Defoe deal in January.
The channel are also reporting that both parties are “very confident” that the Falcao deal will be done before the deadline closes, while Arsenal have successfully applied for an extension for the Welbeck deal.
So at least three big deals are still in the process of being sorted and all of them have presumably gotten extensions.
- Negredo from Man City to Valencia.
- Danny Welbeck from Man United to Arsenal.
- Falcao from Monaco to United.
Valencia have apparently confirmed that Negredo has signed for the club from City in a loan deal, according to Sky Sports News.
Kevin Doyle has joined Crystal Palace on loan until January, according to Sky Sports News.
That will be a big relief for the Wexford native, who was out of favour at Wolves.
Harry Redknapp is being interviewed on Sky Sports News again, and looks a tad shattered at this stage.
Sky Sports News report that Niko Kranjcar has taken a 66% pay cut to join QPR from Dynamo Kyiv.
That Kevin Doyle deal has now been officially confirmed by Crystal Palace.
In addition, Morocco winger Oussama Assaidi has rejoined Stoke City on a season-long loan from Liverpool, and Hatem Ben Arfa has gone to Hull from Newcastle.
Sky Sports News have just done a lengthy run through the day’s ‘highlights’.
Perhaps that’s the signal for bed.
Via AFP…
Southampton have signed Belgian international defender Toby Alderweireld from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan, the Premier League club revealed on Monday.
The 25-year-old, who can play at right-back and centre-back, won La Liga with Atletico last season and played in their Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.
This is finally done…
I’m a Man Utd fan.. obviously I’m very excited about the potential signing of Falcao but it’s not what’s needed. As explained by somebody on Twitter:
“Man Utd signing Falcao is like someone getting a boob job when they need heart surgery. Looks great but doesn’t solve the problem”.
Hernandez is off to Madrid so replacing him with Falcao, who’s far more of an all rounder, is too good a deal to pass up.
Imagine if Falcao needs a knee surgery later….
Completely agree Andrew. But the major problem is still no replacement for Vidic or Rio (they arguably should have been replaced last summer or even under Fergies reign with a view to the future). Smalling and Jones can be quite injury prone as were Vid and Rio. The team is extremely top heavy now. I’d like to see another top quality centre half but I don’t know where it’ll come from. Fingers crossed.
The team is still lob sided, it will take a good few years to fix that team so as to compete for CL places again or even a top six spot is not guaranteed with the look of them so far.
Like sending a young fella to the shop for bread and milk and him returning with a packet of taytos and chocolate
Oh still agree on that. I heard an agent talking along those same lines, referring to Terry Venables for example, always building his teams from the back. As most teams do really. There’s talk of them targeting Shawcross, but Everton are still the favourites to get him.
So this now mean that Manchester United are now officially “ruining football” a la city or chelsea?
They also bought Luke “at me big belly” Shaw for four times what he’s worth.
Liverpool overpaid for lllalllannnna too.. only difference is that Utd will get around 6 years more out of Shaw (if both players finish their careers at the club’s)
I knew we left the number 9 shirt free for a reason!
The number 7 was there to offer to Di Maria as well!
It’s all coming together nicely!
Two centre backs now please oh yea and a Vidal!
Vidal or any player, would want to be on a plane right now if any more deals are to be done. Let’s hope the reporters haven’t been able to keep track of everyone.
Attack is the best form of defence
DDG
PJ JE ROJO
AV WR DB ADM LS
RF RVP
Is it possible United are waiting to have two or three together to announce to the world as a statement of intent.
Imagine 3/4 more players showing United as a new force?
Question! Does the player have to be in the country or not on deadline day or can you have agreement in principle pending a medical?
With the arrival of Falcao will we see Rooney in Midfield CM?
Welbeck to Arsenal???
Why would we help Arsenal?
Did we bribe Madrid and Arsenal to stop them going for Falcao?
We gave Madrid Hernandez and now Welbeck to Arsenal?
Rooney will probably have to settle for playing in central midfield with Falcao taking his place up front. That’s still a far better scenario than playing Tom (I’m a Van Gaal type player) Cleverley in Midfield. The defence is going to be United’s undoing this season unless they buy a world class replacement for Vidic in the next few hours.
Arsenal are finding it hard to contact Arsene Wenger because he wont pay for roaming.
The fact that the last day of a transfer window is more exciting than actually watching a game of soccer shows how boring the sport has become.
It’s just not as exciting as the game.. Just don’t even say that..
Speak of yourself there Niall.. And even the fact you call it soccer says you don’t know what you’re on about…
What should he call it then??
He should call it football.. The yanks call it soccer and they call American football “football” for some odd reason…
It is soccer! If someone asked me did I enjoy the football the weekend is assume they were oh scout Kerry v mayo n the dubs v Donegal
Jesus predictive tx! I’d assume they were on about Kerry mayo dublin n Donegal
Nope, that’s GAA or gaa if you prefer. Football is football, not gaaball.
That’s because you’re a pure bread GAA fan…
I never ever heard one person say to me “did you enjoy the gaa the weekend “
I’m a pure breed irish person where that is our sport
Football is football, soccer is soccer. Whats not to get?
How can Gaelic be football? They run with the ball mostly in their hands. Lol so illogical
Football; the game were you play strictly with ur feet
The GAA should have made their own terminology. So ironic that they copied the English and called it football.
Lads,
You were lucky/unlucky, depending on your perspective, to be from a country where there was already a game of football being played. It was unfortunate for you, but thems the breaks.
USA & Australia are the same, we’re in good company.
Who playing in the soccerball this weekend anyway?
@jimbo and paperboy
We’ll call them English football and Irish football how’s that?
You support English football teams instead of Irish football teams.
Nothing wrong with that but the point I was making in my post is how boring English football has become. That’s all like I wasn’t having a go at you or somehow questioning your irishness!
@sean barber, not “strictly true”. You can head and chest the ball the last time I played :)
What does FAI stand for?
Fairy Association of Ireland?
Falcao failed medical !!!
The dildo in the head made it exciting!
At least the dildo in the head made the final transfer day exciting eh
Was it ur dildo?
Sean
My dildo is respected too much for that
He destroyed Chelsea not so long ago – great business.
I don’t see the point in getting Falcoa when it’s defenders they need…
Because he is one of the best strikers in the world, you can’t pass up an opportunity like this.
Last year United conceded the same amount of goals as the year previous (when they won the league).
The big difference is the scored a hell of a lot less.
Now I’m not saying they don’t need defensive replacements, with defensive midfield being a big missing link, but if you can get someone to bang in goals then you can concede a few more.
A striker won’t fix their defensive problems though. They need defenders and not focusing in strikers
They need a fcuking miracle, Rooney and RVP couldn’t score in brothel well maybe shrek, could wait until they play Chelsea, city or LFC they will get ripped apart and it does’nt matter what strikers they have.
You sound worried Martin.
Sweet divine fook, forget transfers! Look at Natalie sawyer
I hear year shane, wouldnt mind taking her on a year long loan with a view to a permanent move !! Hummadahummada
Niall, it’s obviously not that boring, you clicked on it and you made the first comment
That’s exactly the point I’m making actually, I clicked on this article way quicker than I’d look at an article analysing a match.
Considering that United have only scored 2 goals in 4 games, a striker is exactly what they need. 3 defenders and 2 midfielders have already signed this transfer window. Once they get their full team fit they’ll be in good shape.
Just have a feeling that Di Maria and Falcao will do nothing at United, just like Mata. You can’t just ship in a few big names and expect them to get you winning. This will be the most expensively assembled side to finish seventh. United have no clue how to buy the league.
You mean mata who has scored 7 in his last 11 games and been man of the match on several of those games , jog on
That Kamara video though… 0_o
What’s the point in ending transfer deadline day at 11 when clubs can request another hour? Why not just end it at 12?
As a pool fan I think utds signing of Falcao is a great bit of business. I only wish our lads had got in for him and can’t understand how Arsenal let that one slip when they had the carrot of CL football. It’s a no brainer loan deal. €6m for the year for a striker like that. Even if he turns out to be an utter flop the risk is minimal.
I can understand. His wage at United is 300k a week. Ridiculous sum. Not worth it.
21m for a year including wages. Hardly that bloody good a deal.
Actually might have to redo my calculations. The telegraph is reporting he’ll be on 346k. If correct they’re splashing out 24m for one year for a player who only managed 11 goals last year due in part to injuries. Another panic buy. Why they let Hernandez go is beyond me. For a player who got such little playing time, his goals return is excellent. Whoever is handling transfers at United is a moron.
Monaco are still paying 50% of his wages so it’s not that bad a deal really.
Falcao has a phenomenal scoring record abroad, whether he can reproduce that in the PL only time will tell. Utd are flexing their financial muscles but are still hopelessly short in defence…..until January anyway.
Daily Blind the most over hyped and over rated signing this window. Seriously average player.
I love the way all the pool lads here have changed their names again , the very ones that said NO world class players would come to UTD
Give any player €445,000 a week and yes he will go to utd. on loan for a year.
Blind = average
Shaw = overpriced and over weight
Herrera = decent but not world class
Falcao = wants real madrid and will only play for utd for 1 year costing €24m…..mercenary
So yes, utd cant attract big names. You wanted Vidal, Hummels, and got Blind/falcao
Whatever way you look at this Utd r making a huge statement that they can compete in the transfer market. That is some attacking force. I believe midfield will get sorted and they have Herrera who looks a good signing. I think Top 4 should be in the bag. They should be competing for league. Best thing to happen to Utd was to drop points in the first three and force the clubs hand. Liverpool have spent a lot of money but I honestly can’t see the value. Lots of average players brought In with 100 million. Not a single marquee signing.
Liverpool destroy Spurs – utd destroyed by MK Dons and you are talking about marquee names?
It’s simple, there’s only one beautiful game – football.
Soccer?
Marquee signings don’t guarantee anything lad, pool had mo marquee signings last season and just narrowly missed out on league.
As a wise man once said
” united signing falcao and di maria is like a person needing heart surgery and getting fake boobs instead
Looks nice but not what’s needed”
Ah some lad bet me too it
Fail
Jaysus some of the goals tucked away by falcao heretofore have been fairly special. Here’s hoping he lights up the premier league. Anyone else notice how many lefties man u have picked up? Surely the biggest left:right ratio club in the world atm.
Can we put Roy Keane(Irish traitor) on the transfer? Maybe nobody would take a person without values.
