James McClean gets the nod for Bosnia friendly

Manager Giovanni Trapattoni has named the Derry-born player in the side for the game at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow.

SUNDERLAND WINGER James McClean has been given the chance to impress in Ireland’s final home friendly before Euro 2012.

Manager Giovanni Trapattoni has named the Derry-born player in the side to face Bosnia at Lansdowne Road tomorrow afternoon.

Paul McShane — who was called up to the squad this week — will start in defence while Keiren Westwood replaces the injured Shay Given in goal.

Trapattoni has also indicated Aiden McGeady will play some part in the game as the Italian looks to determine who to use on the flanks at the finals in Poland and Ukraine next month.

Ireland face world and european champions Spain, as well as Italy and Croatia in their group at the Euros.

The full starting XI is: Westwood, McShane, Dunne, St Ledger, Ward; Duff, Gibson, Whelan, McClean; Keane, Doyle.

If Sepp Blatter has his way, you’ll never see another penalty shoot-out

Let’s just get behind the team ffs the players deserve it and will give everyone a welcome distraction

It’s only a question one to which I was actually looking for a proper answer. I want to see Ireland do well no doubt about that

Mc Shane shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near an Irish shirt. Can’t understand it

Antrim born Marc Wilson consistently playing premiership football against some of the best attackers in the game, has said that if he won’t play for the republic he simply won’t play international football, solid player with good desire to play for us being overlooked due to a what seems to have been a ‘misunderstanding’ with trap, nothing against mcshane but I think he is a better option for us, annoys me he is not considered, delighted to see mcclean getting game time, hopefully 90mins to impress

it’s different enough to be a backup team so will be good to see how they do with the likes of O’Shea, Given, Andrews, McGeady so with those 4 main players missing should be interesting

probably will mean he will not start the euros..unless he turns in a man of the match performance.
i do not see the point of having these games..wud it not be better to play behind closed doors and not let the croats know what we have got??

if mc shane is the solution we have a massive problem…. not his fault he is not up to the standard…. am sure he Will give his all for the jersey…. but we r going there to win not just make up the numbers…. surely Coleman is worth a look??? he knows exactly what mc shame can do….. is that not what friendlies r for?? if i was Coleman i would despair…. but what ever 11 put on the jersey we gotta get behind them… come on Ireland!!! bring back Gary breen!!
