If Sepp Blatter has his way, you’ll never see another penalty shoot-out

“Football can be a tragedy when you go to penalty kicks,” Blatter said today.

FIFA PRESIDENT Sepp Blatter has claimed that football can be a ‘tragedy’ when a match is decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Despite dominating much of the Champions League final, Bayern Munich’s dream of continental glory was ended by Chelsea via the lottery of spot-kicks in this season’s final.

Blatter believes that football’s true nature is lost when a match is decided by penalties, and hinted that other options will be explored in the future.

“Football can be a tragedy when you go to penalty kicks,” Blatter said. “Football should not go to one on one, when it goes to penalty kicks football loses its essence.

“Perhaps Franz Beckenbauer with his (FIFA Task Force) Football 2014 group can show us a solution, perhaps not today but in the future.”

In an effort to make the game fairer, FIFA have announced that England’s friendly against Belgium on June 2 will be used to test the goal-line technology to determine whether a ball has crossed the line.

Blatter is such a dope, Germans lose their first ever (exaggeration) penalty shootout and all of a sudden, do away with them?
Penalties arent fair as shown on saturday night but if you cant finish it in 90mins or an extra 30mins then TOUGH, its down to penalties.
Its not that long ago that matches ending in a draw were decided by the toss of a coin, especially true for european cup games, is that any fairer?
More in his line to sort goal line technology & video replays.

  • spot on….what other solution does he propose??? did he not get rid of the golden and silver goal??? whether he likes it or not sometimes the best team doesn’t win… no one wants to see the bus parked… but is defending not an art in itself?? bayern and Barcelona didn’t deserve to lose but isn’t that the beauty of sport?? anyone on any day can get a result…. if he had his way we would keep playing till the big boys won every time
