“He will be here next year, you have my word on that,” Fergie said of Rooney, who was dropped for the match on Tuesday. “There is no issue between myself and Wayne Rooney. To suggest we don’t talk is nonsense.
“He understood the reasons completely. Tactically we got it right. We don’t always but we did then. There are no issues with the player and he will be involved on Sunday. I left out Shinji Kagawa after he scored a hat-trick. I thought I would get more stick for that.”
Ferguson is still bitter about the circumstances of Tuesday’s defeat, in particular the dismissal of Nani, on which the entire contest turned.
“It is hard to keep your faith when you have things like that,” said Ferguson.
and i think he scored in the high 20s last season or the season before, i think he does best when he is the focal point of the team- and just so ya know that im not blindly defending rooney- im a villa fan iv my own problems.
You’re dead right can’t argue with that.i just think when ronaldo was at united thats when he was at his peak and hasn’t been as good since.when do you think he played his best football?
i always thought, and still do think that rooney is quality. i think that when ferguson moulds his team around rooney and when rooney is played to his strengths he can be devastating. hence when ronaldo left- rooney shone the next season, as he was the main man. but like i said- i follow villa, a united fan im sure would be able to advise better on rooneys form and consistency, but i think he is still one of the top footballers in the premiership. il just add that i think he should have started on tuesday, tactics or not- you start your best players.
He wouldn’t talk to the BBC after interviews for a while either and he refused to talk to the press after Liverpool destroyed them last season. He’s a bully, if you don’t play ball with Alex he has a vindictive side, that goes for his players, refs and the press. His influence over refs at Old Trafford is worth at least 12 points a season alone.
Over the last ten years United have had better record in Europe that every European Team except Barcelona. Anybody who watches the champions league can see there is a lot of luck involved in winning it. It’s a cup competition after all.
My main problem with Fergie is his refusal to do press conferences when his loses and he feels “robbed”. Regardless of his own personal views, it’s his duty to attend the post match interview, is it not?
I can’t get over all the press and moaning from united fans about one arguably wrong decision.
You should try supporting a club that gets shafted by referees every week which half the clubs in the premier league do. United get the rub of the green more than any team in England from refs.
That man is like a spoilt child
John you support a club where the manger spent a press conference shouting the FACT every 2 seconds. Ever take heed of daglish and his treatment of the press last season? It was well remarked how rude he was.
Liverpool don’t get shafted by refs. They are just s**te. That’s why they are in 7th.
You really have a chip on your shoulder don’t you Aiden
Football would be better for the rest of us if people like you had nothing to do with it. Friendly slagging is what’s its all about. One-up manship. But You seem to take any criticism about utd personally. Like you matter to the club. It’s funny listening to you.
Well that post just showed I’ve been wasting my time. You are clearly a child. Only a teenage boy could come up with a reply like that…(I’m not gay, you are!)
This is a discussion section where the option is there to reply to comments.
If you don’t like that, perhaps you shouldn’t be here. Notice how people seem to agree with my comments regarding your attitude.
Sooty chief your the chap who decided to pick on my comments. If you don’t like then a) don’t read them, b) don’t comment in them or c) don’t read the story. Simple as that.
So if it makes you warm that you get more green thumbs than I, I’m delighted for you.
Maybe run for the government if your that popular.
Lot of trophies but none of his teams will compare to the great teams that dominated Europe like Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Barcelona. No doubt Man Utd have been untouchable domestically, but their relative impotence in Europe over 20 years gets to him
Well the Champions League is a much tougher competition to win than the old European Cup ever was.
The top 4 of several countries to beat which includes (and included) playing Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia, the two Milans, Juventus, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and many many more on a regular basis.
Back in the good old days of the European Cup, you could beat the champions of Northern Ireland, Turkey, France and Switzerland and you found yourself in a final against the champions of Germany! If only it was as simple nowadays like it was for Liverpool back in the day! Oh and that Northern Ireland team that Liverpool beat back in 1977 is semi-pro now. Beat 4 easy teams, in a European Cup final vs. 7 nowadays against even better teams.
@llyons , Jesus bitter much…care to declare who you support , I’m guessing Liverpool as you seem keen to get them listed as a side that sir alex must be hurting over ?? Get real , Liverpool teams dominating Europe , you mean back in the 70s , only barca have a team in the modern day that dominated Europe and deserve the praise or doing so , sir alex has turned united into one of the biggest clubs in the world under his reign and left Liverpool and many others trailing ,he deserves the credit he gets and will go down as probably footballs all time greatest manager by the time he’s finished.
He is short tempered and cantankerous That has nothing to do with his trophy haul. They are emotions and existed long before he ever won anything. I’m a fan of the short tempered cantankerous Utd manager. Tuesday was one day it didn’t go Utd’s way. He’s got to take it like a short tempered cantankerous MAN.
Lads, it’s a well known fact that fergie wants to win more euro cups. He’s said it many times. He has said for all utd’s dominance they should have more euro cups. Thats what he said.
And all the talk about it being harder to win now is nonsense. Sure you could argue the league was harder to win back in the day. More teams, less rules, poorer pitches and less of a gulf in terms of finances. Does that diminish utd’s dominance over the last 20 years? Of course it doesn’t.
Yous are coming across as bitter. Ye lost. No big deal. It happens. Yous will win plenty more. And before yous point to the sending off,
I assume utd will be appealing it if it was so wrong? No?
26 doesn’t matter to us now. We have our 19th title and if we hold out our 20th.
Liverpool won’t win a title in the next two years and probably a lot longer. Must be 30 points now to catch up.
So 24 years for a “top club” is unheard of in other leagues. It’s a lot of pain for LFC to consider Leeds and Blackburn having more recent league wins that them.
24 years is a long long time. It certainly hurts LFC deep.
Every united fan likes to remind every liverpool fan about liverpools title wins being in the past, well every one of united titles is now in the past and liverpool poor side that they have been history will show that they won more cups last season than united did. Fact:)
@aiden community shield? A competition that is widely considered a glorified friendly A trophy that can be shared and prize money that is equally divided to worthwhile charities while the gate receipts and program profits go to the 124 teams that competed in the 1st rnd of the FA cup! Your right sir! I stand corrected and I thought I was at the dregs of the barrel with the carling cup
So by that logic you come ya from the LFC fans are those with interest in united or ferguson so it’s fine but if any united fan comments its anti Liverpool?
Always know as the victims and this does prove it.
What’s that saying “calm down, calm down”, these threads adhere to that saying perfectly.
It doesent matter what football team you support, fans are the same the world over. Most reasonable fans indulge in banter which can range from mildly amusing to extreme provocation. Some fans react in good nature others lose the rag. Thats football for you. If my team loses I expect to be slagged to the hilt for a few days afterwards and I’ve learned to ignore the more provovactive stuff, I usually wait til the protagonists team lose to get my petty revenge. Thats football for you. I love it all the same and long may my love for the game continue. Next :-)
Bang on… And to be honest, not too often you get to slag Man Utd…. You have to do it, but you know its usually a matter of days before it comes back at you, so savour it….
I don’t care much for English league football. I do however, care about journalists trying to make a living. I cannot understand why all the other news outlets and reporters didn’t club together and all completely ignore his press conference and the fact it was even caled – until he lifted the ban on the two who offended him. Its called a bit of support for colleagues. Surely he cannot expect reporters just to write what he approves of.
So you think that its ok for them to orint lies just because you support jurnos. Dont forget about the papers making profit from lies. But surely that does not bothrr you
He is Alex Ferguson, people are not going to ignore him. I’d imagine there is a sign outside the room stating “The Management reserves the right of admission.”
He is management, well within his rights.
We’re Manchester United and we’ll do what we like!
Gerry I see where you sre comming from but those reporters are employed to get the big stories. What Alex Ferguson says and dose sells papers and gets people talking. Just look at the amount of views all the Man united articles get on the joutnal compared to other teams. If these newspapers lied about the Rooney suitation (i am in no position to say either way)then he has a right to ban them. He always protects his players like every other manager. The takes no shit from staff, players, The FA,UEFA so why would he take shit from the Media. Love him of hate hom thats the man he is. He will never change.
Of he wasn’t English he wouldn’t be world class. He took the pl game by storm when with Everton. He signed for a high profile club and for big money.
He is a good player but not world class.
He isn’t consistent and doesn’t change games as regular as world class would require. Bale at this present time is world class but of he doesn’t do it for another few years then he too will fade.
There are as good and better players out there than Rooney and on a lot less money and less baggage.
yep i agree,i think united would be better off taking the money for rooney assuming a club would pay it! He prob only had 2 or 3 seasons that were electric, rest were meh…
Look he is far better than average. He is still on one of the best players in the EPL and in the top kind of bunch in the world. But no, he’s not world class imo. The elite group that you rate in that small group are players who single handedly change games. Rooney does this, has done it quite a few times but I think he’s been good enough CONSISTENTLY to be ranked along with Ronaldo, Messi, Iniesta or Cassilas. Take the money and bring CR7 back home :)
He’s watching too much Downton abbey and believes that just because he has sir in front of his name that he has certain entitlements including winning every match. He needs to grow up. The sending off was wrong but the team falling apart afterwards is the teams fault.
The Brits should employ Fergie to manage the press in the UK. He would have put an end to the phone hacking in minutes. Face it folks he is a complete legend and will go down as a great. His ability to manage ad motivate is staggering and he hates to lose! Look outside utd, He put Aberdeen in a euro cup final!
I don’t support utd (liverpool) but that’s a ridiculous comment. Fergie has one every competition out there numerous times. He’s gonna win more this year.
Rooney is a class player, although I do think he could have been better but he’s still only 27.
Aiden gill, the reason why there are so many ABUs out there. Can’t answer a criticism about utd without talking about other teams.
I’m not ABU, I admire what they have done under fergie. Usually a great team to watch and the best team is the one with the most trophies. That’s utd.
Just a pity so many of there fans let them down.
@Aidan ….. Judging from your comments on this topic and ones in the past two things are clear
1. Your not a true sports fan and it’s quite obvious that you hate Liverpool more than you love Man Utd.
2. Your an idiot.
Stick to the topic?
Are you commenting on the topic… Oppps your commenting on what I have to say.
So by your logic it’s fine for LFC fans to comment on threads about a united subject, yet when a united fan makes a comment on this, it’s hate….
It’s a free forum people comment etc.
As for your “idiot” comments… V brave keyboard warrior I see.
Keyboard warrior. Quite the opposite actually. All my details are supplied. I just made the comment based on if you go through the majority of your threads you go out of the way to bring Liverpool into the equation.
Check who started this line of replies Martin, an LFC fan. So as a united fan I can then mention LFC. If your busy checking all my posts, which is a bit spooky, u will find I reply to those which contain references to united, and those are 99% from LFC fans.
It’s the right to reply. It’s a forum.
Just been reading a spanish sports paper and it basically said that if Rooney wanted to leave he has it tough cos no other team would be able to match his wages
He’s not supposed to be an example to kids! He’s a manager whose job is to be successful and he’s very, very good at it. So what if he throws the head every so often…isn’t it always entertaining to watch him and listen to him? The man is a legend, I hope he’s around for another ten years.
Were the England rugby players throwing dwarfs whilst pissed at the World Cup? A couple of Springboks were jailed for assault here in Galway in 2007. Rugby thugs abound aplenty!
Lifelong Man Utd fan, but really the time for Rooney to go is soon, flog him for some quid (while we can) Wayne is a good player but he just is not pushing his own limits. Poor lifestyle, smoking and drinking, not like Ryan Giggs and his daily yoga. Look at him for inspiration Wayne. When Rooney and Ronaldo shared the dressing room, if you had to have told me that Ronaldo would kick on and Rooney would’ve not, I don’t think I’d buy it. Rooney never kicked on, is going backward as a player. Sure Fergie moved him to midfield, but if Wayne was world class he would’ve adapted to it. I love Fergie but as for his behaviour, the man can be very rude and silly. A sore loser, and if all the papers reported the Rooney story, than there must be some weight behind it, pardon the pun.
What league do you suggest we support instead? Surely not the one that takes place on friday nights leaving them recovery time to play for their local pub team on a sunday?
Like I said, I watch any match I reckon will be of high quality My team is Celtic, whom I watch out of club loyalty, not for the quality. What I was saying was why do Irish people watch English football almost exclusively, and why do people from Longford, Leitrim or Limerick take clubs from Liverpool, London and Manchester so seriously. I’d sooner watch Bilbao v Real Sociedad any day. Or Dortmund v Bayern. Or Juve v AC.
The sore loser comments are crazy! Why did Liverpool sack Daglish! COS he was LOSING! Sure he commended the winning team! The game is about winning not admiring the opposition!!
Former players of Fergie has noted he is not a great winner either, Ronaldo has spoke about the CL win in Moscow and how Fergie calmed them down in the dressing room and asked then what it felt like to be winners of CL and said enjoy this moment but once they lifted the trophy it was time to prepare yourself to be back here next year. This is the strength of mind of the man. He doesn’t live off his previous results or status. Take Benitez, how many jobs has he got of the back of a lucky season at Valencia and the epic Liverpool comeback in CL final
Lads just an idea that crossed my mind. First of all I love Fergie and when he’s finished football will go on as always but just won’t be the same.
Ok my original point, anyone else sort of think that he got that mad and mental is because just maybe it was his last chance of winning it and won’t be there next year? Jose favourite for the job and is nothing but nice to united and says the best team lost?
Maybe Im putting 2 + 2 and coming up with a million but stranger things have happened!

I love Sir Alex Ferguson.
Rooney hasn’t played well since he had ronaldo to carry him at united.hes over weight not the great player he’s blown up to be
did rooney not score 30odd goals the season after ronaldo left??
and i think he scored in the high 20s last season or the season before, i think he does best when he is the focal point of the team- and just so ya know that im not blindly defending rooney- im a villa fan iv my own problems.

Then you should marry him!
That was for K.Doran
Rooney haven’t played well since Ronaldo left? Really? Compare his goal tally with a goal getter like van Persie then.
Rooney scores more, and contributes more to the whole play than RvP. If Rooney is a failure, RvP must be one of the worst players in the league.
I’m already married unfortunately
I never said he was a failure.i said he played his best football when ronaldo was carrying him,in your opinion when has he played his best football?
The mentality that has made him the greatest manager to have ever lived.
Some will call it him short-tempered and cantankerous. His trophy haul is the perfect response to that.
Ferguson is a pussy cat when you compare him to Brian Clough!!!
Toys well and truly out of the pram hahaha
Or maybe he’s just showing light to the bullshit rumours the media sprout with any given opportunity?
He wouldn’t talk to the BBC after interviews for a while either and he refused to talk to the press after Liverpool destroyed them last season. He’s a bully, if you don’t play ball with Alex he has a vindictive side, that goes for his players, refs and the press. Maybe he would have said stuff he’d regret??
People will always complain. If he do the press conferences people complain about what he says.
Had Fergie done that press conference, he would have gotten himself a huge fine and a long suspension for calling the ref out for what he is.
I can’t get over all the press and moaning from united fans about one arguably wrong decision.
You should try supporting a club that gets shafted by referees every week which half the clubs in the premier league do. United get the rub of the green more than any team in England from refs.

Okay. Well done. You win. Congrats.
Loving all the Fergie hating. Count your lucky stars that we have a character like him around….you’ll all miss him when he’s gone!
Here’s an excellent interview with him from last month for anyone who has 10 minutes:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21391194
Love him or hate him you’d have to respect him.
I won’t.
Controls the press so well.
These boys will adjust their views to Fergie’s and be re-admitted.
The mentality that has made him the greatest manager to have ever lived.
Some will call him short-tempered and cantankerous. His trophy haul is the perfect response to that.
Lot of trophies but none of his teams will compare to the great teams that dominated Europe like Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Barcelona. No doubt Man Utd have been untouchable domestically, but their relative impotence in Europe over 20 years gets to him
@Liam
Ah that aul baloney, his ”poor” record in Europe.
Perspective, ain’t it a wonderful thing!
No?
I bet it doesn’t get to him as much as LFC impotence gets to u in the league for the last 24 years.
It gets to him more. That’s why he’s a winner and were commenting on an article about him.
Or UTD 26 years before that
Liverpool will go beyond that.
Great reply Liam. Puts it into perspective.
Fact:)
Trophies last season? In 2011/12 season. LFC won 1, mufc won 1.
you can only beat whats put in front of you. To do it consistently in any sport is when you deserve to be called champipns.
Aidan, are you coming onto this sure as a man up fan or a bitter anti Liverpool
So by that logic you come ya from the LFC fans are those with interest in united or ferguson so it’s fine but if any united fan comments its anti Liverpool?
Always know as the victims and this does prove it.
What’s that saying “calm down, calm down”, these threads adhere to that saying perfectly.
Damien plenty of LFC fans celebrate winning the charity shield. It’s all silverware buts its grasping at straws :)
@Aidan Gill and how many times have Liverpool won the Premier League?
Not a clue hans. Would the LFC fans answer that.
Oul bluenose said the papers were talking shite when they reported that the preener Ronaldo was leaving for Madrid….
Next :-)
Summed up perfectly Niall ;-)
Bang on… And to be honest, not too often you get to slag Man Utd…. You have to do it, but you know its usually a matter of days before it comes back at you, so savour it….
I don’t care much for English league football. I do however, care about journalists trying to make a living. I cannot understand why all the other news outlets and reporters didn’t club together and all completely ignore his press conference and the fact it was even caled – until he lifted the ban on the two who offended him. Its called a bit of support for colleagues. Surely he cannot expect reporters just to write what he approves of.
Does anybody know why he banned them? All the papers ran with the story that Rooney is leaving. I wonder why he singled out just 2 papers?
So you think that its ok for them to orint lies just because you support jurnos. Dont forget about the papers making profit from lies. But surely that does not bothrr you
Gerry, he gives the press conference the same time every Friday.
Jesus what a child.
So u enjoyed your last exploit?
Still throwing his toys out of the pram. Making up stories is how these guys make a living. Get on with and stop acting liking a bitch.
Nice photo
Lol. That’s his boyfriend
You’re damn right. And he sorts me out good and proper. Get that in your mind. Get it right in there.
Lol Luca. Sorry I take back that comment it was out if order. But hats off for your reply anyway.
No worries. You’re grand. Only a bit of laugh.
Just throwing it out there, does anyone consider Rooney to be actually world class? Or just pretty good the odd time?
Don’t think *
He’s watching too much Downton abbey and believes that just because he has sir in front of his name that he has certain entitlements including winning every match. He needs to grow up. The sending off was wrong but the team falling apart afterwards is the teams fault.
Takes one to know one!!
Spot on. You can win once or twice with luck. He’s being doing it for 20+ years now.
Ferguson & Rooney… 2 complete parasites
And Suarez is king of the parasites
I don’t support utd (liverpool) but that’s a ridiculous comment. Fergie has one every competition out there numerous times. He’s gonna win more this year.
Rooney is a class player, although I do think he could have been better but he’s still only 27.
*won
Aiden gill, the reason why there are so many ABUs out there. Can’t answer a criticism about utd without talking about other teams.
I’m not ABU, I admire what they have done under fergie. Usually a great team to watch and the best team is the one with the most trophies. That’s utd.
Just a pity so many of there fans let them down.
I don’t care I’m a Liverpool fan & despise everything united…. 2 tramps end of story
@Aidan ….. Judging from your comments on this topic and ones in the past two things are clear
1. Your not a true sports fan and it’s quite obvious that you hate Liverpool more than you love Man Utd.
2. Your an idiot.
Stick to the topic in hand.
Look forward to Liverpool title win replays on the Comedy Channel !!!
IRWA!
Just been reading a spanish sports paper and it basically said that if Rooney wanted to leave he has it tough cos no other team would be able to match his wages
Money no object to psg
Top rate of tax in France is 75% , they would have to pay him a shed of money to equal what he’s in now never mind his fee !
Rooney would never sign for PSG.
Imagine having to get up on Saturday morning, looking forwards to yet another league match against teams like Evian or Troyes.
I am pretty sure Zlatan will be out this summer, because Ligue 1 is simply not a big enough challenge.
Watch Chelsea! New manager, Roman with cash, Wayne happier in England but not in Manchester.
Legend. His press conference so he can do what he wants.
Hasn’t wenger banned sun reporters from training camp?
He is a bad example to kids the way he behaves. Rugby managers are much more disciplined. No manners – he must have grown up on the streets.
He’s not supposed to be an example to kids! He’s a manager whose job is to be successful and he’s very, very good at it. So what if he throws the head every so often…isn’t it always entertaining to watch him and listen to him? The man is a legend, I hope he’s around for another ten years.
And Rugby contains some of the most exciting personalities in the world…
Were the England rugby players throwing dwarfs whilst pissed at the World Cup?
A sore loser, and if all the papers reported the Rooney story, than there must be some weight behind it, pardon the pun.
a bitter, condescending bully. youd have to wonder if hed have won as much domestically if the FA had taken the same path as UEFA do to his behaviour
He seems to be eating sweets in that picture above. Turkish delight has been banned along with those journalists probably
legend
redthumb history channel viewers.hahaha. bet they all miserable Liverpool supporters…. hahahahaha
He’s a leg end all right.
A sore loser when things don’t go his(Ferguson) way and not mention the double standards…
hes always at it refusing to fulfill post match press obligations when they lose !! deduct them points no point in a fine !!!! ha ha cheerio shrek
I find the Irish interest in English football amazing. Most will never or hardly ever even attend a game. I’ll watch any team playing good football.
Alright John so you attend games in Spain, Germany and Italy then yea !
One.
Banning newspaper, isn’t that a bit childish or at worse, bullying behaviour ……
No, didn’t Jack Charlton do the same to Eamonn Dunphey in 1990? But don’t tell anyone, it’s United bashing week!
Your banned
Web Weh Weh!!!
“Sometimes you have a noisy neighbour. You cannot do anything about that. You just have to get on with your life, put your television on and turn it up a bit louder.” – Sir Alex Ferguson
