ARSENAL ARE SET to lose their second player in a week after it was announced this evening that they have agreed to sell Alex Song to Barcelona.

The 24-year-old midfielder was left out of the Gunners squad for their Premier League fixture with Sunderland today, which they drew 0-0, amid speculation that a deal with the La Liga giants was close.

Now, just days after Arsene Wenger watched striker Robin van Persie join rivals Manchester United, the two clubs have confirmed that the transfer will go ahead.

In a statement on their website, Barcelona said:  ”FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Alex Song for Barcelona.

The cost of the operation will be €19 million and the player signed contract for the next five seasons, with a buyout clause of €80 million.

On Arsenal’s official site, the club said: “Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Alex Song to Barcelona.

“Song will now travel to the Catalan club to agree personal terms and undergo a medical ahead of the proposed move.”

  • From Alex songs point of view going to such a brilliant club is fantastic but you would imagine he’s gonna struggle to get game time considering the company he has in the Barcelona midfield

  • Arsenal are not “losing” a player. They have chosen to sell a player, who had 3 years left on his current deal, and has recently stated he is happy at the club. He was bought for £400k so the club are making a healthy profit. The deal suits all parties involved. The article feels like it is written to create a story of yet another “Arsenal Crisis” but the reality is far from that

  • Last season he was your second best player and one of the best midfield players all season. Arsenal fans can convince themselves it’s good business but you’re losing another good player. No point in saying X or Y young players are coming through, cos you’ll just sell them too in a few years!

Stats wise he was indeed one of our best players but far too often he thought he could produce assists that were too difficult when simpler passes were on. I have too many memories of him last season strolling back to ‘defend’ and teammates shouting at him to get back & he’d ignore them. Also if he’s happy to turn his back on the manager that made him – then yes. It is good business

Song thinks he’s a better player than he is in reality. €19m is a great bit of business when Arsenal have a talent like Coquelin waiting to get his chance. Arteta is also a much better holding midfielder
