Coyle hopeful of 'complete' Muamba recovery

Bolton manager says the midfielder, who suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday, may get back to full health.

BOLTON WANDERERS MANAGER Owen Coyle remains hopeful that Fabrice Muamba can make a full recovery after suffering a heart attack on Saturday.

Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest in Bolton’s FA Cup match against Tottenham, prompting the game to be called off.

Coyle had originally avoided speculating on whether Muamba would ever play again, preferring to focus on his player’s survival.

But after speaking with the former Arsenal and Birmingham player, the Bolton manager believes a full recovery could be possible.

“They say (a full recovery) is something that has happened before,” Coyle said.  ”Every case is individual and on its own merits.

“The two things that Fabrice have that can help him in this battle are that he is such a fit young man and the life he’s had. He’s had to fight every step of the way in his young journey, so those two things I am sure will stand him in good stead.

“Football pales into insignificance at this moment, as we know, but he’s an outstanding young individual and we pray that he gets back to that level again.”

The 23-year-old Muamba has regained consciousness from an induced coma and is reported to be breathing, speaking and moving unaided. In one of his first conversations with his father, Muamba apparently asked ‘did we lose?’ when told the score was 1-1 when he collapsed.

Delighted he’s going this well but have to laugh at his “did we lose?”. Why not “did we win?”. Ye were playing spurs not Utd. Be more positive lad.

I heard that when he woke up he asked for the scores that weekend, when he was told Torres scored 2 goals he said “my goodness, how long was I out”???

I wish him very well and would love to sere him backup and doing what he loves on the pitch.
However the question arises as to his later health liability and if an insurance company will continue to cover him for playing on a field with a team.
Agin, getting down to the nitty-gritty, I suspect that many an insurance company alone will be very afraid and see him as a too great a risk to take.
Then there is other national big teams. would they invest buy buying his skills, further millions now on him, bestow to him personally and elsewhere where their is additional possible costs?

Its bad to say but lets be honest – the chances of him playing professional football ever again are questionable to say the least.

I would love to be proven wrong – and hope I am – but even as the man thankfully recovers in his bed, he and his family probably quietly know or suspect the above, as does many a football commentator and sport professional.

I still wish him well, no question about that.
I hope too he is able to regain his feet back onto a field some day and be allowed to do just that.

I think you should have ended your post after the word ‘well’.

Very positive news! A young man has survived a heart attack.

Yes, Marty is right….. People don’t like being told the harsh reality of this money driven society we live in…. Can’t do that…. An empty “Get well soon” would have been quite sufficient.

Sorry to be pedantic but a heart attack and a cardiac arrest are not the same thing. Patrice muamba was in cardiac arrest for 2 hours. He did not have a heart attack!
