Armagh's McDonnell announces his retirement from inter-county football

The player, who helped his county win the All-Ireland in 2002, announced the news via Twitter.

ARMAGHโ€™S STEVEN MCDONNELL has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

The player, who was part of the All-Ireland-winning Armagh side that beat Kerry in 2002, announced the news on Twitter, saying:

โ€œAfter 13 years of playing county football with Armagh I have decided that the time is right for me to retire at this level and move on. I want to thank all the managers and players that I played alongside and made some great friendships along the way.โ€

He continued: โ€œI also want to thank all the supporters from Armagh that supported throughout and also supporters from all over Ireland that respected what Armagh done in this time.โ€

In addition to winning the All-Ireland, McDonnell also received an All-Star award in 2002 and captained the Irish International Rules side in 2010.
