MUHAMMAD ALI’S DAUGHTER knocked down rumours of her father being near death last night, saying he was at home watching the Super Bowl.
May May Ali said she talked to her father yesterday morning on the phone and he was fine. She said he was watching the game at home in Arizona, wearing a Baltimore Ravens jersey, right.
“He’s fine, in fact he was talking well this morning,” she said. “These rumours pop up every once in a while but there’s nothing to them.”
The family later posted a photo on Twitter of Ali sitting in a chair wearing a Ray Lewis T-shirt.
The rumours were started by a report in the British press quoting Ali’s brother, Rahman, as saying the former heavyweight champion was near death. Rahman, though, said he hadn’t seen his brother since last summer and had no contact with the family. The report was widely repeated on the Internet, drawing expressions of condolences on Twitter and Facebook.
Ali suffers from Parkinson’s disease. He celebrated his 71st birthday last month.
He hasn’t seen his brother in nine months and has no contact with his brother’s family, but saw it fit to spread rumours that Muhammad was close to death. He’s a less reliable source than I probably am on the matter.
He will always be the greatest
horrible that his brother would say such a thing but great to hear he’s quite well!
“I’m so mean, i make medicine sick!”
Keep well Mohammed.
Thank god!
great boxer and showman but outside the ring he was not a nice person.
Sure in his prime he was a womanizer, mocked joe frazier unfairlyand said some stupid things during his period with the nation of islam, but in his retirement he has devoted himself to charity and promoting the peaceful side of islam to which he now adheres, and all in spite of the debilitating illness which he suffers from. No sportsman has been such a force for good and influenced so many. Makes the personal flaws of his pomp pale into insignificance.
