THE GAA HAS this morning installed Paul Earley as its International Rules manager for this October’s series against Australia.
The Roscommon man, who has experience in Aussie Rules with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League, takes over from Anthony Tohill who guided Ireland to a series win in 2011.
“Not only is Paul hugely enthusiastic about the initiative and the opportunity that it affords Gaelic footballers, he has first hand experience of both the International Rules game and Aussie Rules itself having played with the Melbourne Demons.” Said GAA President Liam O’Neill.
A statement released by the Association this morning also confirmed that the first series match against Australia on October 19 will be played at a venue in Ulster – with St Tiernach’s Park in Clones or Casement Park in Belfast potential hosts – before returning to Croke Park for the series decider a week later.
Earley, a Michael Glavey’s clubman, will confirm his full backroom team in the coming weeks.
