Liverpool flop Aquilani completes Fiorentina move

Aquilani has since made just 18 league appearances since 2009, after costing Rafa Benitez a fee in the region of ₤17 million.

ALBERTO AQUILANI IS set to join Italian outfit Fiorentina according to the club’s president, Andrea Delle Valle.

After signing for the Merseyside-based club back in 2009, Aquilani has since made just 18 league appearances after costing Rafa Benitez a fee in the region of ₤17 million.

But a move has been on the cards for some time after the player was flown back early from the club’s pre-season tour of North America to help force through the switch, with Delle Valle claiming a deal has been struck.

“We have bought Aquilani,” Della Valle told reporters at Fiorentina’s pre-season training camp in Moena. It was originally thought that under new management, with Brendan Rodgers now at the helm, the Italian would be granted more first-team opportunities after spending the last two seasons out on loan with AC Milan and Juventus, but he has since been deemed surplus to requirements.

It represents the latest move in Rodgers’ re-shaping of the club since taking over the reins from predecessor Kenny Dalglish, having already openly said they are considering moves for both Swansea’s Joe Allen and Fulham’s Clint Dempsey.

Liverpool were made a fool of by this guy and his agent. Did he ever even want to play for Liverpool?
20 million for about twenty appearances. It’s hard watching that club continue to be made look like fools…

Something not right about Aqualani. No Liverpool manager wanted to play him, even the one who signed him, Rafa, didn’t always play him when he was fit. No team he went on loan to wanted to keep him when the loan was over. Says a lot really. Terrible bit of business, but we live and learn! I just hope we’re not looking at the Andy Carroll deal the same way in 18 months time!! :)
