SLIGO ROVERS WERE fortunate to escape with a 2-2 draw in their Airtricity League encounter with Cork City at the Showgrounds this evening.
Despite the home side dominating the opening stages, their opponents took a first-half lead through a deflected Ian Turner strike.
Cork then added to their advantage on 58 minutes, thanks to a clever finish from Vinny Sullivan, following a swift counter-attack.
Substitute Mark Quigley responded for Sligo with little under half an hour remaining, as his free-kick ensured a nail-biting finish.
And Sligo eventually broke the Cork resistance again, after Danny North was taken down in the box, and Quigley doubled his tally for the evening from the ensuing penalty.
The result leaves Sligo under increased pressure at the top of the table, with second placed Drogheda having won on Friday evening.
