IRISH SOCCER FANS hopeful of watching the Boys in Green in Poland this summer will learn today if their ticket applications have been successful.

European football governing body, UEFA, will begin contacting those that applied through their European Championships ticketing process.

Fans who have won the ticket lottery will be informed of the date by which they must pay while those who have missed out will be put on a waiting list. Those supporters will then be considered when the release of the additional 2,300 tickets secured for Irish fans commences in the coming weeks, the FAI says.

“I am happy that we have been able to secure 2,300 additional tickets so far for Irish supporters and thank UEFA for assisting us,” Abbotstown chief, John Delaney said today.

“We will continue to work closely with UEFA to secure any additional tickets that become available, we are also awaiting final confirmation of substantial extra tickets for the Italy game as they have not taken up their full allocation. UEFA EURO 2012 is generating real excitement throughout the country and while it will not be possible for every fan to attend, we will continue to work hard to secure the maximum number of tickets possible,” he added.

Ireland have been drawn in Group C along with world and European champions Spain, Giovanni Trapattoni’s homeland of Italy and Slaven Bilic’s Croatia.

The UEFA sales portal is now closed but all supporters can still apply through the UEFA European Re-sale system which redistributes tickets based on availability of returns.

  • So would I be less of a loyal supporter, because I didn’t go to all the games?

What if I had gone to every game in Europe because I could afford to but not outside Europe. Does that make me any less of a supporter?

  • Why can’t you just purchase a ticket for the game or any game, like you can purchase a ticket for a concert, or for an airline flight.

    • Because fans who have followed the team throughout the campaign spending a massive amount of money doing so deserve to be get first in the queue for tickets. If it was first come first serve the average fan who has gone to most if not all the games would miss out.

  • That shouldn’t mean a thing. Someone who has been to loads of games before should be entitled to a ticket before someone who hasn’t seen a single game.

That’s like saying that you should get priority to go to New York before me, because you have been there loads of times, and I’ve never been there before and want to go but now I can’t because you have a ticket first and I don’t.

If your a really big supporter than its all the more reason to get online as soon as tickets are available and buy your ticket before someone else does.

At the end of the day, the tickets are sold and the money is made. Shouldn’t matter who is buying them.

    • what a stupid comment abovet!

In any event, the FAI ballot rewards loyal supporters, which is completely correct.. ….any other glory hunters can go through a travel agent or take their chances on the UEFA resale ballot.

    • Despite your cool sounding username, you’re logic and analogies are unsound.

If you have been the person that contributed to the success of a team by indirectly paying managers wages, by getting behind the team at matches , by simply showing loyalty, then you should get priority. Its a football match not a bloody flight to new york.

    • If you were standing in front of me right now I’d punch you square in the face for such a rediculous comment. Loyalty needs to be rewarded. If some plonker like you got a ticket before me it would be a disgrace

    • I was curious to see how this would turn out, and now threats of physical violence when an opinion is voiced.

I have supported Ireland in many a game both here and abroad, how little you all know.

For someone I know who would love to see Ireland play abroad, but unfortunate for him he is afraid of flying. Mostly he travels to Europe, where possible, by ferry, and drives I the games. But not being “loyal” enough has problems getting tickets.

You would punch me in the face for my opinion or someone who doesn’t express your views, expect a lot more back in return.
