YouTube Top 10: because if you stick at it, you can do anything you want

The inspiring tale of paraplegic skiier Josh Dueck, and nine other weird and wonderful clips from the world of sport – it’s this week’s YouTube Top 10.

10. Sunday’s Super Bowl between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots was a real classic, with the game hanging in the balance right up until Tom Brady’s final desperate fling hit the deck. The play that changed the game was pretty special — take a bow, Mario Manningham.

9. We know that All Black winger Sonny Bill Williams can play rugby, but now that he’s gone and won a national heavyweight boxing belt in New Zealand, we’re getting a bit fed up of his showboating. I’d probably have put up more of a fight than this guy.

8. Remember Dodgeball (the gym-based school activity rather than the Ben Stiller film)? The University of Alberta went all out to reclaim their world record for the biggest ever game, rounding up a whopping 4,979 players and letting them fire soft balls at each other. How much fun does that look?

7. And now meet Dodgeball’s older, infinitely more dangerous cousin — TaserBall. It’s exactly what it sounds like.

6. Regular readers will know that we like NBA stars Blake Griffin and Kevin Love. It may be an ad, and it may be heavily edited, but you’ve got to watch this video of them playing Jenga in style. Bagsie going first…

5. Now for a serious interlude. This taped conversation between Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp and journalist Rob Beasley in 2009 was the centrepiece of the prosecution’s failed case against Redknapp for alleged tax evasion. A very interesting listen.

4. How not to take a free-kick. What more needs to be said?

3. Picture the scene. Your playing high school basketball and your team is down by one point with about 20 seconds remaining. You find yourself in acres of space, nobody between you and the basket. As you take your shot, you can see your name in lights, and that pretty girl you’ve been staring at across the corridor is definitely going to come over and ask you if you want to go for a soda tomorrow night.

Wait, what do you mean it’s the wrong basket?

2. After last Sunday’s debacle in Dublin, we need all the motivation we can get ahead of Saturday night’s game between Ireland and France in Paris. Ah, Drico.

1. In 2004, Josh Dueck broke his back in a skiing accident and was left as a full paraplegic. For a lot of people, that would be time to give up skiing, but not Dueck. He got back out on the slopes using a “sit ski” and last week, after quite a bit of practice, he nailed the first ever sit ski backflip.

If this doesn’t inspire you, nothing will.
