THE LONDON 2012 promotional department set a very high bar for themselves when Lord Seb Coe delivered some Olympic medals on a scarlet, tassled cushion to the Tower of London earlier this month.
The only way seemed to be down for their photo opportunity hopes but that was before some bright spark took the notion of sending the ladies’ football squad up to Tankmania in Leicestershire for a spin in the mud.
On Thursday, Hope Powell’s ‘Team GB’ footballers took an afternoon off from strategising for their upcoming Olympic matches with New Zealand, Cameroon and Brazil.

All 22 of Powell’s Olympics squad went on the team-building exercise at Tankmania, near their Leicester training base.
Speaking of the visit to tank range, Team GB’s captain, Casey Stoney said, “It was great fun, and all of the girls enjoyed it. It’s not the usual battle we’re used to.
The tanks were a little more fearsome than some of the forwards I’m used to facing, but just not as quick.”
The ladies will face Sweden in a warm-up match at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium on Friday, 20 July.
The game will be followed by the men’s side, under the stewardship of Stuart Pearce, taking on a Brazilian squad in the evening.
