LIVERPOOL HAVE MISSED out on long-term transfer target Xherdan Shaqiri as Roberto Mancini has swooped to make his second signing as Inter Milan manager in the space of a week.
Neither Inter or Shaqiri’s former club, Bayern Munich, have released details of the deal but reports suggest Inter will pay €2 million for the services of the 23-year-old until the end of the season.
More significantly, however, from a Liverpool point of view, Inter will be obliged to make the deal permanent in the summer with a fee of €14 million being reported by AFP.

It’s also claimed that there will be an extra payment should Inter, currently 11th in Serie A, qualify for next season’s Champions League.
“There is total agreement between Inter and Bayern Munich for the arrival of Xherdan Shaqiri,” the club tweeted.
For Liverpool, Shaqiri’s move to the San Siro represents another transfer market setback. The Reds had been persistently linked with Shaqiri over the past 18 months and after missing out on him during the summer, their pursuit of the Swiss international had intensified in the last week with the news of Steven Gerrard’s impending departure.
Several outlets had reported the midfielder, who joined Bayern from Basel in 2012, had verbally agreed a deal with Liverpool earlier in the week while Stoke City had also expressed their interest in the player who was under contract in Germany until June 2016.
Shaqiri, who came up through the ranks at Basel, scored three goals for Switzerland at last summer’s World Cup but found it increasingly difficult to break into Pep Guardiola’s Bayern side against the competition of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.
He becomes the second mid-season recruit for Inter after the recent arrival of German striker Lukas Poldoski from Arsenal.
Going nowhere fast like liverpool. Id rather live in italy and play for a manager who has won things. On the continent inter are perceived as a bigger club than liverpool. I said perceived before I get hopped on. Liverpool cant attract the big players there not good enough look at the top five teams in England Liverpool have the weakest squad by a mile. Only Liverpool fans cant see this they also have the smallest ground only manager not to win a thing and lowest wage bill. Club in decline gerrard gone suarez gone sturridge crocked no keeper no right full. Average player’s average club manager sacked by reading.
Why dont they sign bony. Why didnt they sign valdes I mean they are crying out for a keeper and goal scorer. I know why because foreign players dont rate them they think the same of spurs or everton that they do of Liverpool. Lets see how sturridge does with no gerrard or suarez. Couldn’t get in at chelsea or city. Not good enough
Are Liverpool any better? Inter have new owner who is trying to rebuild a team without paying obscene amounts for players, despite the current league position they are moving in the right direction in a few years they will be back where they should be fighting for titles and doing well in champions league
No they won’t, Juve have that league sowed up for the next decade. Inter haven’t won a league with them in the top division In decades plus Italy only has 3 champions league places.
Wasting your time scipio everyone knows lukes football knowledge is useless. Its funny now how wrong everyone else is and I mean everyone except luke because liverpool rule!
Liverpool offered Sanchez more money too but he didn’t go either, they will really struggle to sign a big name player this season unless the get into the champions league
It speaks volumes really. Club being poorly run transfer wise. The summer gone was the best chance in a long time for lpool to really push on. Im a united fan but have to say I was slightly worried toward the end of last season and start of the summer. Liverpool were strong very attack minded and only looked like going one way. The policy in the summer of numerous average players instead of two or three quality players is really backfiring. Suarez gone sturridge out Gerrard off aswell isnt good. They should have rolled big in the summer with champions league football as an incentive. Spurs done the same neither team needed 10 new players just a couple of great players. Balotelli was a shocking purchase whoever sanctioned that should be sacked straight up. As I said im a united fan and aint really complaining about the current situation. Lpool fans you cant attract great player’s with out champions league football that saying might be hitting home hard now
Its more that a current 22 year old player take goetze pogba verane this quality of player has no knowledge of lpool being a serious side. Its been to long and current foreign players dont see liverpool as being relevant. Champions league in 05 was great for them but porto won it aswell once in last 25 years. There has been no consistency over the last 25 years and the current crop just dont see lpool as an attractive destination. Also great players want to play with other great players and realisticslly shqiri and sanchez dont see lallanna and sturridge in that bracket.
Liverpool FC is a great club but has been poorly run for many years now. These new owners are trying to do things right like reduce the wage bill, redeveloped stadium etc but from what I’m hearing their transfer policy of only buying for the main part players with potential along with this co called commitee is the wrong policy. Last year hurts not only because we lost the title but the terrible transfers. Now that our marquee players like Gerrard and Suarez are find I really fear for the club

This is an all too often story for Liverpool and their transfer committee.
It is a major problem.
I mean it’s inter for God sake. The pansie just wants to be close to come so he can go skiing.
It’s a bad football move for him because inter are going nowhere fast in a dying league, if it was Juventus or even Milan I’d understand.
Going nowhere fast like liverpool. Id rather live in italy and play for a manager who has won things. On the continent inter are perceived as a bigger club than liverpool. Spot on Hard it’s coming home to roost now . As a fan I’m disgusted. Shut the mouth get the business done that way it doesn’t involve egg on the face
Poor club and a dreadful side living off past glories – sure who would want to embarrass themselves by going there?
Don’t he getting annoyed that another quality player doesn’t want to join ye, Gavin.
Are comments being deleted or is there a problem with the score
Or both?
