Wolves, Sunderland fans plan 'wall of silence' protest on live TV

Fans of Wolves and Sunderland will stage a massive demonstration of silence, in front of the Sky cameras, at Molineux on 4 December.

FANS OF WOLVES and Sunderland are set to protest against the price of Premier League match tickets live on Sky on 4 December.

Organised by the ‘Take Back The Game’ group, supporters are planning ten minutes of silence at the start of the game at Molineux.

According to the group’s website, “there will be no clapping players out onto the pitch, no singing, no celebrating any goals scored, stone dead silence.”

‘Take Back The Game’ are railing against both the cost of tickets to supporters and the ‘astronomical’ wages paid to players.

“Football has changed over the last 20 years beyond recognition and as time has gone on, supporters are having their loyalty and passion exploited more and more with ticket prices rising year on year, some clubs prices rising by 900% since The Premier League was launched,” reads the site.

“With the world economy as it is, it is financially harder than ever for supporters to follow their team home and away and in addition players wages continue to rise to an astronomical level.”

Supporters attending the match may choose to take their lead from the recent Stockholm derby between AIK and Djurgarden, where the entire stadium remained shrouded in silence until the ten minute mark.

Forgive my iggnorance but does a protest about the cost of tickets seen unusual to be taking place in a ground where you’ve already paid an admission. If you want to make a real difference simply don’t turn up to the game. I think a loss of revenue will make owners pay attention quicker than a silent protest.

Glad they’re not trying this at Old Trafford – the place is usually silent anyway these days. No one would be able to tell that there’s a protest going on.
