Wojciech Szczesny doesn't fancy Spurs' Champions League bottle

The Arsenal goalkeeper has publicly called out Andre Villas Boas’ squad.

AMAZING WHAT A COUPLE of clean-sheets can do for the ego.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has thrown down a Champions League challenge to North London rivals Spurs and proclaimed his doubts about Andre Villas Boas’ men claiming a top four spot. Speaking on his club’s website, following his side’s 1-0 win away to QPR, the Polish goalkeeper argued that wins in Arsenal’s final two matches would be enough to secure a Champions League spot.

Chelsea [third] play Spurs [fifth] at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, with the Arsenal players kicking their heels in knowing one of the top four challengers, or possibly both, will drop points.

Arsenal are unbeaten in nine matches following their last league loss, against Spurs, on 3 March. Gareth Bale, the PFA and Writers’ Player of the Year, scored the opener that day with the winning goal arriving courtesy of Aaron Lennon. Regardless of that loss, Szczesny believes Arsenal have the stronger squad to clinch a Champions League spot.

He said, “If you look at Chelsea’s fixtures, they have Tottenham and Everton left and they won’t be easy games. And Tottenham do not have enough quality, so there you go.” The Pole added:

I would settle for another two 1-0 wins in the rest of the season and a place in the top three… Hopefully it will be back to the old days and hopefully we will get back to winning trophies as well.”

Arsenal play Wigan at The Emirates next Tuesday before travelling to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle on the final day of the season.
