Ask yourself this: all other things being exactly the same would that match have been as special if it was, say, a quarter-final? The answer is a pretty unequivocal no.
But that’s the prospect we’re faced with after the seedings plonked Federer, Nadal and Andy Murray on the same side of the men’s singles draw this year.
Not only does it set up a potential showdown between Federer, a seven-time champion, and Nadal, a two-time champion, in the quarter-finals but it also leaves a pretty clear path to the final for world number one Novak Djokovic.
If the seedings play out, the other quarter-finals should see Djokovic face Tomas Berdych, David Ferrer against Juan Martin del Potro, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga against Murray.
