WIGAN – YES – WIGAN are the 2013 FA Cup winners after a dramatic finish at Wembley.
The Latics, who started the day as massive underdogs against Manchester City, stunned last year’s Premier League champions with this Ben Watson goal in stoppage time.

City had Pablo Zabaleta sent off for two bookable offences with six minutes to go, but few can argue that Wigan were not worthy winners after a display of confident football not befitting of a team who could be relegated in the coming week.
Roberto Martinez had his goalkeeper to thank for a scoreless first half after Joel Robles made this save from a point-blank Carlos Tevez effort.

Callum McManaman proved to be Wigan’s danger man with two gilt-edged opportunities falling his way. The first, when he beautifully cut inside Matija Nastasic right of the six-yard box before placing a left-foot shot wide of the far post.

After appealing for a penalty when Pablo Zabaleta collided with Roger Espinoza, Wigan were on the front foot again when McManaman made a smart angled run behind City’s defence.
The young attacker was forced wide, but managed to come back inside around Joe Hart. With bodies streaming back, however, the opening to goal became more narrow the longer he waited and the shot was eventually blocked.
The missed chances in the first half never came back to hanut them though, as City failed to gain an upper hand in the second half and paid the price in the closing stages.
I’m delighted for Wigan Athletic and its supporters. Congrats Wigan.
I’m sure the City players will be well chuffed with being compared to the great Liverpool team of the 80s.
Nice to see loyalty being rewarded for a change for both dave whelan and martinez, both seem decent genuine people
Man City’s £306,200,000.
Wigan’s squad -£15,500,000
Lescott cost more than Wigan’s squad
fairplay 2 wigan tho :D
Brilliant!
Their hard work paid off, that’s what the FA cup is all about.
Manchester city enjoy your victory parade. Lol
Someone’s getting sacked ha ha
Delighted for Wigan. Nice to see the under dog win and I hope they can stay in the premier league.
There were ugly scenes outside Wembley after the Final…..
until Teves and Lescott got back on the bus …..
Pretty sure you would never have said that when he was in red…
More evidence that Mancini is a complete spoofer and a terrible manager. Sacked
explain how Mancini is a spoofer and a terrible manager?? this year was first year since 2004 where he has failed to win a trophy?? fair play to Wigan delighted for them. but City didn’t help themselves with the managerial rumours from last night, I personally think Mancini should be given another year
If i had his budget, Id say Id be able to bring a trophy or two.
Id be more than happy too. When he started achieving success in Italy it was down to the punishments of AC Milan and Juventus (Ibrahimovic transferred to Inter as a direct result of the scandal). He also had the pick of players in Serie A, even able to buy players of Roma his biggest rivals for the title. Yet his Inter team consistently flopped in Europe, achieving absolutley nothing. Mourinho came in after he was fired and won the treble and left and they became shit again.
At Man City again he has had bottomless resources and every advantage going for his team, yet has barely deilivered. Two straight flops in Europe (Not even getting Europa League this year!). And the manner in which they won the league will be fondly remembered in the history of the Premier League as one of the most dramatic moments. Yet a closer look tells the full story. A United collapse coupled with two last gasp goals against the most awful away team in the premier league (who duly got relegated this year in pathetic fashion).
Last seasons title race was as muh testament to Fergie’s status as a great man manager getting the best out of a thin United squad as it was about Mancinis awful approach to management ( how he handled Tevez, Balotelli, etc…).
His starting XI was worth more than Wigan’s squad and they failed to deliver. He withdrew Tevez for Ross Barkley in a bizarre move today.
In short the man has failed to deliver from positions of great advantage. He never gets the best from his squad
I think you mean Jack Rodwell, but points well made Pat.
Thank you Luke. Youre right. And so am I, about Mancini. Shite Manager
Love it….
Don’t forget how he dropped the keeper that had played EVERY cup game this season, including some fantastic saves that kept them in the semi final! He promises him a final appearance and drops him last minute. Also, publically criticising players. Who does that? Of all the managers in the premier league, who comes out and publically states how shite one of his players has played? I hope he goes, never liked him. Horrible personality, horrible for the league!
You beauty! Well deserved win! Congratulations Wigan! Sickened I didn’t go over now!
See Wigan at The New Den next season. COYL.
No Parade for Shitty ! No Parade for Shitty !
Accumulator f#cked.
Well done Wigan
passion and pride 1/money 0
Would I be right in saying that only 3 out of the 22 starting players are English.
You would be. Would I be right in saying that its an international game and the bulk of the best players in the English league aren’t English?
But that’s what is wrong with the English league , and that is why Spain and Germany are better on the international stage.
Spain and Germany are better because they have a better youth structure that is years ahead of most other countries! If we were to go off the understanding that leagues which included home players as the majority resulted in a better international team then technically Ireland should be fantastic!
Spain also have dodgy doctors
Fantastic point David!!
That’s not what I was trying to say, no doubt England and Germany are miles ahead youth wise, but are these foreign players being brought in denying the chances of these English youth players, look at Villa the approach they took with the young English players, and it’s worked for them.
**spain and Germany
If it was the other way round it would be a boring old game , long ball and hacking down players !!
Kevin Moran a very happy man tonight
Great win for Wigan, maybe City could’ve done more in making sure the world didn’t find out they were sacking their manager the night before a cup final.oh well , no trophies for Man City this season , back to normality. MANCHESTER IS RED! MUFC!
Delighted for Wigan especially since not one commentator backed them to win. Really hope they stay up now
We scored in fergie time, we scored in fergie time. We scored in fergie time, we scored in fergie time : D
It’s moysie time!!!!! Get it right :-)
Still pissing myself with that result. All the main sports channels gave Wigan zero chance. Well done Wigan, great effort and a lovely way to sink the blue moon. Blue Moon sunk officially.
I’m absolutely delighted for Wigan and hopefully they can also stay in the premiership too. Arsenal are beatable, so too are Aston Villa!
I’m delighted for Wigan but would they give it up for safety – I hope they stay up
Any player SHOULD. What would you tell the grand kids? I stayed in the premier league or I won a trophy and here’s my medal.
Well done wiganp
Anyone know what odds Wigan were before the game?
8 to 1 I think
8-1
Jesus!
10.5 on the decimal or 19/2 on Betfair all morning
Well I was working in a bookies at the time and noticed they were 8/1 after around 25 mins. So I put tenner on them to win. Pub money sorted
United should have gone for Martinez
He certainly has won more at Wigan in a shorter time than Moyes at Everton…
I think he is a brilliant manager. Id love to see what he could do with a big club. He has a great eye for a player going on the cheap. I really hope wigan stay up.
Congrats to Wigan. Did not see the match . Great result for soccer in general
Why care about this foreign cup?
bla bla bla bla bla cup
Why ever look outside your boarders, or your county or your town or your street or your house!! Best just stay indoors and never do anything, can never be corrupted by any of that foreign nonsense then.
Why comment?
Is this the same Wigan team that were bood off the field last week by the so called fans? Well done to the players and staff.
I hope Mancini stays, one less team for Utd to worry about next season.
Hope Wigan stay up. Great win against he blue millionaires
