Wiesberger on track for Ballantine's victory

Paul McGinley and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez are tied for fifth at seven under, with the Dubliner carding five early birdies in his round of 65.

AUSTRIAN BERND WIESBERGER leads by five shots at 14 under, following today’s play at the Ballantine’s Championship in Icheon.

With just one round remaining in the European Tour event at the Blackstone Golf Club near Seoul, South Korea, Wiesberger holds a commanding lead after shooting a seven-under-par 65 for the second consecutive day.

Australian Marcus Fraser is his nearest rival at nine under, while Englishman Oliver Fisher and Chilean Felipe Aguilar are a shot further back in a tie for third. Wiesberger began with birdies on holes four and six in a composed start to his round.

He then stormed home on the back nine, adding five birdies in his second successive bogey-free round. Fraser also finished well, shooting three birdies from his final eight holes during a round of 69. Fisher’s five-under 67 featured four birdies from the 13th hole onwards, while Aguilar fired a 68.

Irishman Paul McGinley and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez are tied for fifth at seven under, with the former carding five early birdies in his round of 65. Sweden’s Alexander Noren, Englishman David Howell, Scotsman Richie Ramsay and Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat are all tied for seventh, eight shots off the pace.

Aphibarnrat hit nine birdies in his terrific round of 65. Englishman Ian Poulter is one of seven players tied for 11th, while pre-tournament favourite Adam Scott of Australia holds a share of 35th after shooting a four-under 68.
