THE WINNER OF the RTÉ Manager of the Year will be announced on Sunday night, and there are certainly plenty of viable contenders for the prize.
The 10 nominees include Joe Schmidt, who guided Ireland to a historic Six Nations triumph and a stunning unbeaten run in the November Internationals, Brian Cody, who led Kilknny to another All-Ireland SHC success, and Peter Taylor, who coached his daughter Katie to a fifth consecutive World title and sixth European title on the trot.
The category is part of the annual RTÉ Sport Awards, which take place at 9.30pm on Sunday, and will be broadcast live on RTÉ One.
So who do you hope to see win the prize?
I’ll be voting for my local Londis manager, Pawel.
Sound lad and deserves the recognition
Brian Cody, an unbelievable achievement considering they were wrote of so many times, some passion and drive for the sport.
Not giving out……just curious.why so many red thumbs?Whats there to disagree with that??
Rugby fans
Don’t get me wrong, a great achievement after a disappointing 2013 but, I think the fact that he’s done it so many times before somehow lessens it. If he’d been managing a ‘smaller’ county, say Waterford, it would have been more impressive.
That and the near perfect year the rugger lads had knocks him off the perch for me anyways.
Hahah, according to Tipp fans in 2010 they were going to win their own 5 in a row……..2014 was supposed to be their year so,but they forgot about the fact of winning 11,12 and 2013 championships.Got ahead of themselves! But shur they are great for taking part in the great matches of the past few years arn’t they!!
Schmidt will win it hands down from the voters that will lynch him if we don’t win the world cup next year.
What a very blue chart!
Mcginley or Schmidt
What about Phillip Doyle the former Irish Women’s Rugby Coach?
Marginal sport? Maybe that’s why but it was a great job.
Why isn’t Brendan Rogers on this list?
Because Van Gaal was on the phone to him at the time …..
That’s a really good point. I think the fact that hes managing in a foreign country means you nearly wouldn’t even think of him.
I can’t figure out whether you’re being sarcastic or not, but it’s a calender year award and although things aren’t going well for him now, he had an unreal year by going within points of the premier league title with a club that hasn’t won it in donkeys years
What must Eammon Ryan do to get recognition at these awards. 9 All Ireland’s in 10 years
Yeah I think at least to he should be in that list
He should take up a popular sport perhaps, like rugby or tennis or even football.
Mick McCarthy deserves a mention, not only flying the flag with Ipswich but also providing a last chance saloon for many Irish internationals.
Hard to believe Cody has never won Philips manager of the year
TJ Ryan knowwhatamsayin
Ah yeah suppose your right bout winning it so many times, like I think he won it in 06 mainly coz KK were written off coz of the disaster for the yr before,he gutted that team and was making a new one and then beat cork who were going for 3in a row.But Waterford…..small!Waterford are huge into their hurling.Same size as KK and a population of bout 20000 more than KK.Dosnt mean that their results of late have been bad that they should be considered ‘small’
Thought Matt O’Connor was top 3 material at the very least
Thought McGinley would get more votes. To get all those egos to pull together to win the Ryder cup as favourites was a massive achievement. I suppose as someone said earlier today golf is sports Garth Brooks.
McGinley. Schmidt can have it next year.
After he wins us the world cup of course.
Hope that pr1ck cody doesn’t get it!
The manager of the Local Credit union. Local loyal and lending a ball of lids!!!!!
Philip doyle ? Never heard of him !
Someone in The Journal needs to go back to sixth class and revise percentages!
