A HEATED EXCHANGE between Samir Nasri and Emmanuel Frimpong boiled over into post-tunnel “handbags” at the end of last night’s Carling Cup quarter-final between Arsenal and Manchester City.
After helping his new club to a 1-0 win over his former employers, Nasri clashed with Frimpong, confronting the Arsenal teen at the final whistle.
TV cameras showed the pair arguing as the sides left the Emirates pitch and initial reports suggested that the spat had continued in the tunnel.
Speaking to the Guardian, an Arsenal spokesperson confirmed that the row did flare up again as the stars made their way to the dressing room but denied that any punches had been thrown.
Words were exchanged – that was that, there were no punches thrown but there was a lot of noise. Sami was speaking in French and Mani wasn’t. It was handbags but they didn’t even touch.
The bust-up signalled a fiery end to a difficult night for Nasri. The Frenchman was booed throughout his return to the Emirates for the first time since his big-money move to City in the summer.
City won the game 1-0 thanks to an 83rd-minute strike from Sergio Aguero.
