Wexford hit four to book place in Walsh Cup semis

Liam Dunne’s side were 25-point winners against NUIG in Gorey this afternoon.

WEXFORD’S HURLERS HIT four goals to get 2014 off to a winning start.

Liam Dunne’s side booked their place in the Walsh Cup semi-finals with a comfortable 4-21 to 0-8 win against NUIG in Gorey this afternoon.

But they won’t know their opponents until next week after this evening’s meeting of Dublin and UCD was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Kilkenny play DIT and Offaly take on Galway tomorrow in the other quarter-finals.

Making their first appearance of the new year, Wexford ensured safe passage with a 25-point win over the students.

A strong wind give them the advantage in the first half and they took their chances, leading 2-15 to 0-4 at half-time.

Although the scoring subsided after the break, two more goals killed off any faint hope of an upset.
