At last! Westmeath won their first game since May 2013 tonight in the O'Byrne Cup

It was also a good night for the footballers of Meath, Wexford and Dublin IT.

WESTMEATH’S LOSING STREAK is finally over after the county’s senior footballers won their clash in Group C of the O’Byrne Cup tonight.

New manager Tom Cribben indicated that his players had a crisis of confidence last Sunday after their defeat to Meath extended their losing sequence of games to 15 matches.

But they finally put that slump behind them with a 3-11 to 2-13 win in Kinnegad tonight over DCU.

In the same group, Meath strengthened their position with a 1-17 to 1-9 success over Longford in Páirc Tailteann in Navan. They take on DCU on Sunday and only need a point to secure a semi-final place.

In Group D tonight, Wexford enjoyed a three-point win over Carlow IT in Enniscorthy while Dublin IT had four points to spare over Wicklow in Bray. Those results now mean that Dublin IT are the only unbeaten side in the group ahead of the last round of games next Sunday. They will take on Carlow IT there while Wicklow will face Wexford.

Group C

Meath 1-17 Longford 1-9
Westmeath 3-11 DCU 2-13

Group D

Wexford 1-13 Carlow IT 0-13
Dublin IT 3-10 Wicklow 1-12
