'I wanted to go to United but Inter rejected €20m offer' - Sneijder

The Dutch midfielder has revealed that he was prevented from moving to England by his former employers last year.

GALATASARAY MIDFIELDER WESLEY Sneijder has claimed that Inter rejected a €20 million bid from Manchester United in 2012.

Netherlands international Sneijder had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League leaders, with interest reportedly dating back to 2010, before his switch to Turkey in January.

However, the 28-year-old has now revealed United reignited their interest in the playmaker with a bid in the previous off-season, only for Inter to reject the offer.

“Manchester United had offered €20 million for me and the club rejected it,” he told Fanatik.

I wanted to go to United but Inter didn’t let me. And then, they asked me to lower my wage. I didn’t accept it.

“That’s why they put me on the stands for three months. I’ve experienced problems with the presidents both at Real Madrid and Inter.”

The Dutchman’s most recent dispute was well-documented, with Inter keen for the star player to accept a significant pay cut.

After months of first-team exile, Sneijder eventually joined Turkish giants Galatasaray in January.
