Wenger: This could be my last season at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he could step down as manager of Arsenal at the end of the current season.

ARSENE WENGER HAS suggested to L’Equipe Magazine that this could be his last season in charge of Arsenal.

The 62-year-old has two years remaining on his contract but says that he will review his position next May.

“What is hard is the feeling something is finishing. For me, we’re now talking short term, it’s obvious,” he said.

“But whether it’s with me or someone else, it changes nothing. My successor needs foundations on which he can be successful,” added the Arsenal manager.

Arsenal endured a rotten start to the Premier League season, culminating in an 8-2 defeat to Manchester United and a derby loss to Tottenham, but have showed vastly improved form in recent weeks.

Wenger, in charge since 1996, says that losing Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas in the summer was particularly difficult, as they remain young players.

“For the first time I lost young players, who were reaching maturity. I suffered. It’s painful to lose key men you have invested a lot in,” he said.

“[Bad results] broke the squad. I often call it ‘the season of the last minute’,” he added, referring to last season when his team finished fourth, behind Manchester City, Chelsea and champions United.
