WALES WILL PLAY Costa Rica next month in a friendly to honour the memory of Gary Speed, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) announced this morning.
The game at Cardiff City Stadium on 29 February will be the national side’s first match since Speed was found hanged at his Cheshire home in November.
Speed, who scored seven times in 85 appearances for Wales, made his international debut against Costa Rica in a 1-0 win in Cardiff’s Ninian Park in May 1990.
Following a brief spell in charge of Sheffield United, he took over as Wales manager in February last year where he remained until his death nine months later.
“This will be an opportunity to celebrate the life and achievements of a great servant to Welsh football both as a player and as a manager,” the FAW said.
Tickets will be priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children and senior citizens with 10% of all profits going to charity.
