'We'll bring you to Poland for match tickets' - Campervan gang's Euro 2012 offer

A couple spare in your possession but no way to get to Gdansk? We might just have the answer.

YESTERDAY, WE BROUGHT you a Cribs-style tour around the homemade campervan which Liam Doran and his band of merry Irish followers will attempt to travel across Europe in.

Qualified mechanic Doran, from Co Carlow, and good friend Danny Dalton had dreamt for years of owning such a vehicle for use around Ireland and began the ambitious project of building one when they came across the front and chassis of a 1997 Ford Transit.

They then bought a caravan for €500 and began by extending the chassis and fitting the two together. A water pump, oven, fridge and heater were all installed with further plans to add a toilet, shower and canopee.

“We just thought it would be worth having one – I’m big into fishing and Danny wanted it for him and the missus,” Doran told TheScore. “He wouldn’t shut up about it then we came across the bit of a van and said we’d give it a go.”

“There were no plans made to travel anywhere other than down the country but when the Euros came about we said ‘Jaysus, wouldn’t it be some crack if we went to Poland.”

A video clip was made a month ago for a friend who was doing a documentary and it has received a significant interest since hitting YouTube earlier this week.

On the van’s current state, Doran says it is coming closer to being the finished article but is required to pass a DOE test before they begin their trek to Gdansk early next month.  It has been taken out for several trial runs by Dalton, who sells balloons at festivals and events, however, and they are confident of its roadworthiness.

The group is currently at six, although two more of the lads are aiming to stumpt up the cash and Doran, who is desperate to lay his hands on tickets, has offered a seat in their van for admittance to one or all of Ireland’s Group C fixtures.

“We’re trying our best to get them (tickets) at the moment. There’s little point in travelling all that way if we don’t make it to the games,” he added.

If there’s anyone out there who is selling them, we’d love to hear from you. We’ll even swap you a for a place in the van!”
