'We'd play them on a halting site' - Na Piarsaighs ready to roll in All-Ireland semi

Skipper Kieran Bermingham says the Limerick outfit are looking forward to their showdown with Loughgiel Shamrocks.

JUST ONE HURDLE – Loughgiel Shamrocks – stand between Kieran Bermingham and a day out at Croke Park

And ahead of Na Piarsaigh’s showdown with the Antrim side in the All-Ireland Senior Club Championship semi-final this Saturday, Bermingham appreciates how long the Limerick outfit have come.

The club are Limerick and Munster senior club champions for the very first time in their history.

“We finished the Munster final with seven U-21s – that speaks volumes for the work that’s going on in the club at underage level, and it’s really starting to pay off,” says Na Piarsaigh captain Bermingham.

“There weren’t too many media guys here in 2009 when we were being hammered, when we lost four county finals in one week. But we knew in our heart and soul we were doing things right and this year it has really paid off.

“We want to make everything work, we want to tick every box, we want to make sure we prepare 100%, and it’s in the lap of the Gods after that,” he says.

The sides now meet the Ulster side in the tight confines of Dublin’s Parnell Park.  “Honestly, we’d play them in a halting-site, doesn’t matter where we play them we’re just delighted to be there. We’ll give it everything we have,” says Bermingham.

“We’re training for a full calendar year and it’s tough going, but we’re into the unknown now. It’s the first time we’ve had to take it easy on the Swiss Roll over the Christmas! These are really exciting times.”
