United make it six wins in a row but benefited from this controversial decision

Brendan Rodgers’ woes continue.

LIVERPOOL’S WEEK HAS gone from bad to worse as they lost 3-0 to bitter rivals Manchester United.

The Reds, who were dumped out of the Champions League midweek, had a couple of chances of their own but United were clinical as goals from Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Robin van Persie sealed a convincing win.

25 seconds after Raheem Sterling was foiled by David de Gea, the hosts drew first blood through Rooney’s measured finish past Brad Jones, who was picked ahead of Simon Mingolet.

The talking point of the first-half came five minutes before the break. van Persie got the slightest of touches to Ashley Young’s cross before Mata headed home at the back post.

The Dutchman’s flick meant Mata was in an offside position but the linesman didn’t raise his flag. To be fair, van Persie’s intervention was difficult to spot in full speed, let alone the TV replays.

Regardless, nothing is going right for Brendan Rodgers at the moment.

Some more de Gea heroics kept Liverpool at bay before van Persie got in on the act after a fine pass from Mata.
