WATERFORD UNITED HAVE released a statement in response to a wind-up order that was brought against them by former manager Stephen Henderson.
It was reported earlier today, by Beat 102-103, that the order was made against the Airtricity First Division club by Henderson over money he is owed by them. A High Court date of 15 July was set for the hearing between the disputing parties.
Henderson told the Waterford radio station, “Nobody wants to go down this road. I certainly don’t. I’m as disappointed, disgusted, and broken-hearted that it’s come to this stage to be brutally honest with you. All we needed to do was have a conversation, and these conversations never took place.”
United released the following statement on their website this evening, “Having been today made aware of Stephen Henderson’s petition to wind up the club, negotiations have been opened between both parties.
“Waterford United is confident that a successful resolution will be found that will be acceptable and that a proud 83 year tradition of soccer in Waterford as well as over twenty jobs, will be protected and maintained into the future.”
The Blues were denied a season in the top flight by Dundalk last November when they lost out in a promotion/relegation playoff. They are currently fourth in the league, eight points adrift of Longford Town.
