Watch: Queen denied first Epsom Derby win as Pour Moi takes the spoils

A photo finish as the Queen’s horse Carlton House was denied at the death as 19-year-old Mickael Barzalona rode Pour Moi home to victory in the dying strides at Epsom.

THE FRENCH-TRAINED horse Pour Moi won a thrilling Epsom Derby today as Queen Elizabeth was denied a first victory in the race with her horse Carlton House having to settle for third.

Carlton House was denied at the death as 19-year-old Mickael Barzalona rode Pour Moi home to victory in the dying strides, beating the 4-1 second favourite Treasure Beach, who is trained by Ireland’s Aidan O’Brien.

Carlton House finished three quarters of a length behind the winner.

The winning jockey stood up and saluted the crowd as he passed the winning line and later waved the French flag around the course.

The Queen was denied a first winner in the Classic for a reigning monarch in more than 100 years.

Earlier, Irish jockey and three-time Derby winner Kieren Fallon was denied his ride on Recital after an injunction preventing his participation was granted.

The owners of Native Khan – who finished fifth in today’s flat classic – argued that the jockey’s decision to choose Recital – who finished sixth – over their horse amounted to a breach of contract.
