WATCH: Paul Kimmage and Ian O’Riordan’s heated discussion about Martin Fagan

‘He cheated. He was caught. We’re all in a better place now.’

IAN O’RIORDAN IS the Irish Times sports journalist who produced the extraordinary interview with Martin Fagan in the wake of his failed doping test recently.

The Mullingar athlete was subsequently banned for two years by a disciplinary panel.

Paul Kimmage is a former pro-cyclist and author of Rough Ride, of course. The former Sunday Times journalist took his guest to task on Setanta Sports’ iTalkSport over the weekend.

Here’s the discussion:

  • To be fair to Kimmage, he has been fighting drug use in sport for the best part of 20 years, with integrity and perseverance, against the most powerful of vested interests, particularly in the cycling world. I think has a right to treat any explanation given for doping with skepticism. It don’t think he is undermining depression in stating unequivocally that that is simply not a justification for doping.

  • Kimmage is a tosser to undermine depression in the manner he did in this clip, let him look at the incidence of depression on Ireland and the results that all too often happen
You know I’ve often read kimmages pieces/ book etc as of today I’ll not read another word he writes.
He’s a bitter man is my opinion
