THE CLUB WORLD CUP might be a bit of a mid-season nuisance for European sides but in its defence, it throws up a couple of gems every so often.
Brazilian sensation Neymar was the star of the show this morning as Copa Libertadores champions Santos cruised through to Sunday’s final with a comfortable 3-1 win over Kashiwa Reysol of Japan.
The 19-year-old has already been linked with a move to every European club under the sun and he ensured that it will stay that way when he fired his side into the lead in the 19th minute.
Another Santos prodigy, Ganso, played Neymar in 25 yards from goal and the striker sent his marker flying with a beautiful feint before curling the ball past a helpless Takanori Sugeno in the Kashiwa goal.
Borges doubled the Brazilians’ lead five minutes later and although Hiroki Sakai gave Kashiwa a lifeline shortly after the break, Danilo made sure of Santos’ victory with a smashing 30-yard free kick just after the hour mark.
Santos will now face either Barcelona or Al-Saad of Qatar, who meet tomorrow morning in Yokohama, in the final on Sunday.
