WATCH: Van Buyten bursts the ball with one extremely powerful free kick

Bayern Munich’s encounter with Cologne had to be unexpectedly halted following the defender’s strike.

OTHERS SUCH AS Roberto Carlos may have tried and failed, but finally, last Friday, Daniel Van Buyten took a free kick so powerful that the ball was burst.

The incident is the latest embarrassment for the ball’s makers, Adidas, who were also criticised during the 2010 World Cup, with critics complaining that their Jabulani ball was highly inept.

In the game itself  – despite being denied a potential goalscoring opportunity owing to the burst ball – Bayern Munich went on to beat Cologne 3-0, with goals from Mario Gomez, David Alaba and Toni Kroos.
