THE IRISH LEAGUE is back in the headlines again – for all the right reasons.
Nearly a year on from the back heel finish that made Glentoran’s Matty Burrows a household name, the man who delivered the cross for that goal has struck with a wonder effort of his own.
With his team 1-0 down to Portadown on Saturday, Colerine’s Johnny Black spotted David Miskelly off his line and decided to go for goal – with stunning results.
“I saw the Portadown goalkeeper lining his defence up as though he was expecting me to deliver it into the box and I knew that, if I caught it right, I could have him scrambling to get across,” Black told The Belfast Telegraph. “As soon as I hit it, I had no doubt it was going in.
The goal was one of seven in an entertaining 4-3 encounter between the teams – Black’s moment of magic helping the home side secure their first home win of the season. It was another day to forget for Miskelly however, as he was also at the receiving end of Burrows’ flick last October.
Coleraine boss Oran Kearney was understandably delighted afterwards, saying: “I’m just over the moon the cameras were here. He assures me he has done it a couple of times before in his career, once in a reserve game at Seaview when he was playing for Glentoran.
“We all know what Johnny’s left foot is about. It’s easy to talk about the goal, but his cross for Shane’s second goal was also top class.”
