Tommy Bowe on track for second Test return, says Warren Gatland

The tourists face the Wallabies in the second Test in Melbourne on 29 June.

WARREN GATLAND SAYS injured Ireland wing Tommy Bowe is still very much in his plans.

“Tommy Bowe will hopefully be fit and available for the second Test,” the Lions coach said after the facile 64-0 win over Combined Country today.

The tourists face the Wallabies in the second Test in Melbourne on 29 June.

Bowe’s compatriot Brian O’Driscoll fell awkwardly attempting to retrieve a ball late in the contest but confirmed he did not suffer an injury in what was a scary moment for Gatland and Lions supporters.

“I think we probably got a little bit flat, I mean depth wise, and the accuracy of some of the passing (suffered) as a result,” O’Driscoll said of the game. “Balls were thrown behind when a little bit of depth would have made things an awful lot easier, so I think that is one easy fix.

“It was difficult enough conditions at times and that’s why some of the first-half stuff was so pleasing. But then not making excuses, we should have been able to kick on from there but we didn’t.”

One major positive for the tourists ahead of the opening Test against the Wallabies in Brisbane on June 22 was O’Driscoll’s combination with Wales star Jamie Roberts.

“Yeah I think there were some really good things, we read off one another relatively well and it was nice to pick up where we left off four years ago (against South Africa),” O’Driscoll said. “It’s always nice when you know the people you’re playing with…there’s just good intuition there and hopefully we might get another opportunity at some stage to play with one another on the tour.”

Meanwhile, Gatland confirmed winger George North was simply rested at half-time and did not suffer an injury.
