I wish more counties were competitive in hurling. It would be great to see the likes of Monaghan or Sligo beat Kilkenny. It’ll most likely never happen, but it’d be great for the sport. I know this comment is a bit unrelated to the story, but I thought I’d add my opinion.

Is there is a new motion going to the council for approval in 2013 which would come into effect in 2014, which is to disallow the back door to the bigger teams (previous years quarter final or above) so for example if Kilkenny lost there would be no back door so disqualified from competition, allowing other teams up the ranks. Being from Kilkenny I do agree there needs to be more competition but it is also up to other counties to begin and source funding for an action plan to bring themselves up to the standard Kilkenny is at.

It would make sense, what was brought in to help weaker counties now and from an early stage only benefited the strong, but years have passed and nothing has been done. Lip service again about promoting the game..

@gerry If the new motion is passed if your out your out, in turn forcing weaker teams up the ladder, which in my opinion cannot be a bad thing but standards need to be maintained.

For sure, but that sounds like a good idea , if u got to a quarter final, ur back door privilege is gone for the next season, can they keep it that simple though?? Hopefully

The way I understand it is, lets say Kilkenny lost the Leinster final and there’s no back door because we won this year, Kilkenny would be out for the rest of the season. In hind sight it will put more pressure on teams in the league to preform better and get as many games in to prepare them for championship level.
