VIDEO: Close to tears, Paul Galvin admits win over Tyrone means a lot to hurting Kingdom

“We’ve been carrying a lot of hurt for the last eight or 10 years,” the Kerry forward said.

PAUL GALVIN WAS close to tears in the wake of Kerry’s impressive win over Tyrone in Killarney this evening.

The Finuge man picked up the man-of-the-match award at Fitzgerald Stadium as the Kingdom ran out 1-16 to 1-6 winners.

“We gave a hug performance from start to finish out there,” Galvin told TV3′s Kieran Fitzgerald afterwards. “What do you say about this Kerry team? Hard to know.. they’re great men you know and we were put to the pin of our collar.

“A lot of the talk during the week, writing this team off served only to fuel great men in that dressingroom.”

  • We suffered hurt over the last ten years??? They won around 6 all Irelands FFS! If he was a hurler from Mayo he’d know about hurt.

  • Call him what you like but he has been central to every big Kerry win for a very long time. When he plays well they are unbeatable. A great player who does not get the respect he deserves but the All-Ireland medals probably make up for that. This is coming from a Mayo Man.

I say fair play to him, Love him or hate him, he brings that thing to GAA that we all look for.

  • Forget the tattoo’s, forget the skinny jeans…He is an outstanding footballer and it was great to see that sort of emotion being shown.

You can’t help but admire that sort of passion after the success he has had.

    Don’t hate, appreciate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Those posting their vitriol might take a second to remember that this guy is swearing blood for his county and doesn’t get paid a penny. The passion he showed in this interview is an antidote to a lot of the prima-donnas getting paid ludicrous amounts for plying their trade in the Premiership. Don’t understand where the hatred comes from? Jealousy maybe? So what if he is passionate about fashion. I don’t think many of you would repeat what you are posting about him in person face to face :) He’s no angel but he is one talented Gaelic Footballer

  • As a Dublin fan I enjoyed the game great for the sport ,.going to be a great season

  • Whatever about the interview etc. the personal comments relating to Galvin are a disgrace. The fact what a man chooses to wear, saying he beat students (when in actual fact he threw a duster at one) shouldn’t even come into this discussion. God knows what hurlers/footballers from counties get up to that doesn’t make the press.nnAsk any student in the school and most will have good things to say. He coached the school team superbly.nnPersonal attacks should not be tolerated.Forums do not allow it. nnFor those questioning his sexuality why not read the papers. His love interests have been commented on. She’s even from Mayo!

  • You can’t buy that passion, this Kerry team want it this year, they will be hard to beat after that performance tonight

    Reply
  • cant beat him for talking points folks, and despite showboating on the pitch he always plays the right pass on it. As fir being the dirtiest footballer, he is up there for sure but he isnt alone. Kerry are just a shadow of their former selves, but once more we are seeing the blend of young talent getting blooded with the most experienced team of the last 10 years. They have enough in the tank to deal with anyone, even Cork, but they need to toughen up mentally. That weakness has cost them 4 al irelands in recent years. That is their only failing. I wouldnt worry about the dubs too much.

  • See that passion in the interview lads? That is exactly why we have 36 All Irelands and also why the rest of ye will never come close to it.

As for the cynical football comments, we played Tyrone at their own game yesterday and our superior football ability shone through. Pity we didnt learn that lesson earlier and we wouldnt have to listen to this crap about not been able to beat Northern teams. That is well and truly put to bed now so they will have to go back to the drawing board to devise some new maslerplan to beat the Kingdom.

We arent deluded enough to think that we will win this All Ireland but its looking a lot healthier than this time yesterday.

passion, commitment, Love for Kerry & GAA, Hard work, Dedication, PRIDE!
If anyone else had put in as much work as Paul Galvin and the rest of the Kerry team, u probably would be close to tears too ????

Anyone with a small brain can see and remember how Kerry GAA has been praised and slated in the media!
Does anyone understand what’s its like to be a volunteer wearing ur county jersey n have ur every single move reported in the media ( at the end of the day all our GAA players are human and deserve a private life)
Think back, Paul Galvin has been a target on the pitch for years, as have many other players, can u honestly say that u would not react if u ur pushed over the edge ?????
As a Kerry person living and working in London, yes we take pride in our GAA history, let it be also known that when Kerry loose or don’t cross the winning finish line we are well known for throwing the best parties BUT does that give other Irish people in London that drink along side us the rite to insult us , bring our personal lives into it, and think its ok?, answer is NO it dosent

At the end of the day it’s not our fault that a. We were bought up in Kerry and were proud of it b. Kerry’s GAA history is outstanding
To those Kerry GAA Haters , grow up n shut up or put on your football boots get training, the results on field are what matters
Why does it matter if Paul Galvin wears skinny jeans ????Or if the gooch is Gay ( I’m not saying he is, just read it in an earlier post)
I understand that when it comes to Kerry GAA its nearly always 31 against 1 but why be childish with stupid childish personal comments and insults ????

    • And what in the name of God would I be bitter over with a Kerry man? The accent? The tourism revenue? Or perhaps (most likely) just I’m from a neighbouring county and sick of the sound of the bulls**t coming from Kerry ever since I was born. From Healy Rae to Galvin, Dara O Se to Daithi O Se, the lot of ye are spoofers that talk such mountains of manure, it’s just hard to stomach some times. And take no notice of the animal references. That’s what we call ye in PROC with years, not a personal dig or anything.

Granted we don’t have anywhere near the amount of football all irelands as Kerry do, but we are THE most successful GAA county, that is a simple fact! Donnacha, Kerry have beaten us on the big occasion in the noughties which has been hard to witness as a Cork fan, that I admit, but as God is my witness we will hockey ye this year. I am actually delighted ye beat them. I am hoping we meet ye, I will relish the opportunity for Cork to beat ye out the gates, as our players will!

    • Losing three finals albeit to an excellent Tyrone and the Dubs that is what hurts. Galvin doesn’t compare himself to his contemporaries but to the Kerry team of the 70/80′s. To him and his teammates winning 7 or 8 all-Ireland is what they are looking at however ridiculous that may seem to you. Time is passing and he probably only has this season and two more in him. He will look back at this in the distant future and cringe a little but the weight of expectation and the exorcising of Tyrone demons is what seems to be the cause.

Your silly, small minded bias is very evident which says more about you than anything.

How can you possibly equate Galvin making a point about media hurt (Joe Brolly’s constant jibes if you must know) and him being a dirty player?

      Reply
    • Ironic how you tell me I am a silly little man for making personal jibes yet your first reaction is to mock me? Confused much? In any event I won’t stoop to your level as I don’t know you, but, are you honestly telling me that a team of 30 grown men would be close to tears for the last ten years whilst collecting numerous all ireland medals because of one mans comments? Seriously, Paul Galvin and the Kerry team are hurting so much that he is close to tears ten years on because of one idiots comments? Pull the other one will ya! And I don’t even think I am going to get into him being a dirty player argument, cause if you try to say otherwise (given his history) you haven’t a single clue about GAA and the rules Bryan!

All I have to do is read back your personal attacks on Kerry people calling them animals, etc- thats nothing other than childish and pathetic.
I have never said that they were close to tears, only that they were going a response to comments- its one of the oldest motivational tools used in sport for godsake! Some idiot makes comments and the coach comes in and posts that article on the dressing room wall looking for a reaction.

I know enough about GAA rules thank you for asking by the way, but I was not questioning Galvins history (werent you the one who said to stop referring to history, anyway) I was merely stating the fact that you couldnt equate his point with him being a dirty player.

You either dont understand what I am typing or you’re choosing not to- either way as I have already said, it says a lot about your mindset

I would also ask you to log on to http://www.proc.ie to see that we all call them animals in Cork, even Kerry family I have don’t get bothered by it cause it’s only play acting so get a grip will ya! Either that or learn a bit more about the rivalry between Cork and Kerry before commenting on things you have no idea about.

      Reply
    • So Bryan, please explain to me in depth where the hurt that has a grown man in tears on live TV has come from? Please explain who has been hurting them for the last 10 years! If all you can come up with is Joe Brolly, Cork and Dublin teams will need counseling given the stick he has dished out to them over the past few years!

Insulting? because I have called you small minded? I have referenced your posts in this so it has not be indisciminate.
Having gone to college in Cork and also played football there, I am well aware of the rivalry between Cork and Kerry. I always found footballers from Cork to be quite respectful of Kerry , its usually those with no involvement at all that produce most of the bitterness.

You have completely moved off point here though- first you were making attacks on Kerry football and people in general and now realising the folly of this you have resorted to questioning why Galvin was emotional.

I would say that you should have quit while you were ahead but I’d imagine going on your attempts to make a point here that you rarely , if ever, are

You said above that it all came as a result of Joe Brolly but now have backtracked to monkeys on backs now? So when Galvin said they have been disrespected (in some mafioso kind of way) is this as a result of Tyrone having beaten them 3 times on the noughties? Anyone who beats them is disrespecting them is it? Just trying to understand your ever changing and off the wall logic, excuse me!

      Reply
    • I think you’ll find that independent analysis of this dialogue would find you being the tetchy one, given you are now explaining personal attacks on me when I do not have to do the reverse as I have not and would not stoop that low!

      Reply
    • My logic hasnt changed at all- its the exact same point. Brolly has discussed this monkey on their back at length therefore they are clearly linked. The disrespect that he refers to was nothing to do with Tyrone beating them and all to do with their credentials being questioned due to not having beaten Tyrone (you really should be able understand this).

Also- my ever changing logic? You have used an example of where you thought it changed once! Thats not ever changing
