BEING A REFEREE is a tough job — just ask Graham Poll how hard it can be to keep track of all of those pesky yellow and red cards in a small notebook.
So spare a thought for referee Nestor Guillen who had an unholy mess to deal with when this Paraguayan junior league match between Teniente Farina and Libertad ended in a 36-man brawl.
Rather than wade through the mess to try to pick out the guilty parties, Guillen took the easy option by heading straight to the dressing room and sending the whole lot of them off. Subs and all.
“The referees didn’t even stay on the field,” Teniente president Hernan Martinez told Reuters. “As soon as the fighting broke out they went to the dressing room.
“They ran through the tunnel to their dressing room. They weren’t able to see anything that happened. But, in the report, to more or less wash their hands of the responsibility, they expelled all 36 players.”
WHAT? Look at them all kicking each other like girls, did anyone throw a deacent punch?
