CHAMPIONS MANCHESTER CITY failed to close the gap on Manchester United, losing 3-1 to Southampton in this evening’s Premier League clash with Southampton at St Mary’s.
The win pushes the Saints six points clear of relegation, a first win since Mauricio Pochettino was installed as manager.
Jason Puncheon’s seventh minute strike got the home side off to a flying start. After Jay Rodriguez’ shot was saved point blank at the edge of the box, Puncheon followed up with a cool finish to roll the ball home.
And to mark the occasion, Puncheon celebrated by commemorating his infamous mid-match toilet visit last month.

City slipped further behind in the 21st minute, a Joe Hart howler allowing Steven Davis tap in after the ball sneaked between the legs of England’s number one.

Edin Dzeko would reduce the gap seven minutes before half time, but if the money markets began to see a surge in bets on the comeback, they soon slowed.
City’s night went from bad to worse three minutes after the break when Gareth Barry showed the full weakness of his right boot, thudding a low Ricky Lambert cross into the bottom corner of his own net.
